Art Documentary Recommendations, by Petrusino on Feb 1, 2014 14:55:18 GMT 1, On the previous page I posted "Bomb It" the documentary (inside there are a lot of big names and styles , even "Os Gemeos" in the part concerning "Sao Paulo")
I am looking for "Bomb It 2", which I've never seen before, someone has a link to the full movie?? (I find only fragmented parts on youtube)

The work he was doing at age 13 puts most to shame.

also a couple of other great ones, although not exactly art documentaries but about art itself are by Orson Welles.
The Orson Welles Sketchbook and F for Fake.

Art Documentary Recommendations, by Deleted on Feb 17, 2014 13:56:41 GMT 1, Hughes never pulled his punches and put words togegther in ways that would shame many of todays so called art critics.
He was from another era where political correctness and money did not affect his views.
Todays art critics seem to be part of a but buffing crowd who are scared of annoying the big money and dealers.

Art Documentary Recommendations, by Deleted on Feb 17, 2014 14:22:19 GMT 1, For those that don't have the time to watch all of 'The mona Lisa curse' - watch this video. Hughes on Warhol, the relationship between art and money, and contemporary art collectors. Watching Mugrabi squirm is brilliant. The people like Mugrabi etc manipulate the market.
It's what Hughes wa sgetting at as to why Mugrabi would want to own all those Warhols.
There are lots of stories about dealers buying up an artists work at low prices then sticking them in auction and bidding up the prices to create some sort of fake overhyped value after which they can sell their stock to gullible rich people who buy at high prices as some form of tax avoidance or other thing.
There was even a story about Sotheby's lending a Chagall dealer millions to buy Chagall's which were auctioned by Sotheby's.
Hirst played the game very well and he should be applauded for that but without the Saatchi publicity machine behind him and the contacts, it wouldn't have worked.
Hughes exposed the politics and money behind the promotion of a lot of very bad art.

Art Documentary Recommendations, by Feral Things on Oct 15, 2014 19:40:35 GMT 1, Robert Hughes' 'Shock of the New' is a staple text for many undergraduate art history courses and covers the development of modern art from 1880s onwards. It was made into a eight part documentary which might now look dated but in my opinion is still well worth watching:

Was shocked he allowed cameras in his studio while he was creating and critiquing his pieces. Really felt like a vip getting access to a very intimate, honest and rare experience. Brave of him to do this piece IMO.
