OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by gatecrasher on Feb 25, 2014 12:25:41 GMT 1, 150 people who think it's by Banksy .. I bought one but I'm 99.9% sure it's not.
So, if we assume that Outis is a serious artist that didn't appreciate the excitement his marketing technique would create. Would forum members forgive and move on, if his next print was an innovative awesome image, or is his "brand" cursed forever ?

So, if we assume that Outis is a serious artist that didn't appreciate the excitement his marketing technique would create. Would forum members forgive and move on, if his next print was an innovative awesome image, or is his "brand" cursed forever ? An artist needs to work hard to build a reputation not just appear on the scene by way of some circus in the form of the aforementioned 40 pages of non-sense! Once Outis has identity revealed the "mystery" and suspicion that he is a "real artist" will be over, and nobody will care less, the thread will disappear down the list, and so will his crap print, and the sooner that happens the better !!!

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Hairbland on Feb 25, 2014 14:19:21 GMT 1, The question was different and starts from the claim (deceptive itself, but interesting) in Outis website: if you took away the brand name what would you have left? In other words: if you took away the name Banksy every artwork by him is great art in your opinion? raindogs that's such a silly argument. That's essentially an extension of the argument 'that's so easy, i could do it' that people spout when the go to modern art museums. The aesthetic of art is subjective, you may like or not like something that i feel differently about, however the value of art doesn't come from the aesthetics (though that doesn't hurt) it comes from the artist. Who are they? What period of time was this created (historical and social)? How will they be seen in 10 years, 20 years, 50 years? Good points...I had to listen to an unsuccessful white artist friend at the Gagosian Basquiat show say "well if a white guy did this would anyone pay attention?", and also for those who just throw a cursive glance at RAE and dismissively see Basquiat. Or another friend who upon seeing the JR / Parla collaboration show thought the Parla scribbles were weird...yet every time I look at the book I see the movement in his drawing...anyone can scribble, few can tie it into a cohesive piece that moves.
Speaking specifically to the question of "is every artwork by Banksy great art?", I think the NYC residency proved no. Not everything by Picasso is great...those napkin things he tossed off to pay his cafe tab are prized because they are by Picasso.
On a different note from looks of Faile FB lots of stuff coming...
...but at this point I think this thread is less about the Outis print and more about why individual members are on this site...

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by eschiff on Feb 27, 2014 11:15:14 GMT 1, and ebays prints are being up some as high as 360quid :-) Yes, all three of the prints available are being bid up by the same two people. And one guy is winning two of the three auctions. The syndicate has tried to get more advanced by hiding bidders IDs and have two (instead of just one) of their mates bid up their auctions. Tricky stuff. They must be smart. Probably the same people who buy 7 Dal East dusk/dawn prints at the launch.

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Deleted on Feb 27, 2014 11:33:25 GMT 1, When Banksy releases canvases on a market stall, that's a comment on the art market, when someone else pretends to be Banksy, pretending not to be (using a fake "Banksy style" website and Facebook page).... That's a con! IMO Like it or not according to one Ebay listing,
"using clever marketing tactics, Outis has exploded onto the art scene."
Although to me, it's more that people buy slick looking screen prints anyway.
and quite a few mistake screen printed images of staged photos for detailed stencils.

You obviously don't like freedom of expression.
Someone comes along who has an opinion, who isn't part of the Banksy sheeple and you take offence.
Why is that?
