MMMike rants about other posts, by mmmike on Feb 13, 2014 15:20:00 GMT 1, Personally I think when someone posts a for sale ad or what ever really you shouldn't hijack the thread shitting on the pricing or the pure stupidity of the posts.
That said sometimes I feel like I can't help myself so I thought I'd start my own thread here where I can rant without hijacking other people's threads.
Feel free to post here with your rants about me or others here as well. No hard feelings.

MMMike rants about other posts, by mmmike on Feb 13, 2014 15:28:13 GMT 1, First rant: Why do people feel compelled to talk up prices? If you are that insecure about your "investment" (clearly that is the way you are looking at it) then maybe you should be investing elsewhere.
Seriously, as soon as a Nola is posted you have a gang of posts saying what a great price 14,000 GBP is!! If it is such a great deal just buy it! I'm sure they won't because I'm sure they already own one. 14k may be a good price I think 14k is nuts and anyone who would pay that has more money than brains but even if that is somehow an ok price I don't think the seller needs cheerleaders.
And for the record I own a NOLA and have no interest in buying another so no reason to talk down prices. I find talking down prices equally tasteless but it is hard not to when there is so much hyping up prices.

- This thread has legendary status potential! Please keep at it!!
- I agree some, of the cheerleading really smacks of that type of thing a lot of times.
- I do love the NOLA print in an extreme way however I can not imagine a time when paying $20,000 for it would ever be within even the most extreme of realms of possibility or reason.

That one i felt like it was ok to comment directly on the Outis thread because in my mind it was unethical to sell the print the way they did. I think the quick sale was proof that the insinuation of a Banksy connection worked. Poor showing IMO.

That one i felt like it was ok to comment directly on the Outis thread because in my mind it was unethical to sell the print the way they did. I think the quick sale was proof that the insinuation of a Banksy connection worked. Poor showing IMO. Yeah... I was being extremely sarcastic. Please let's NOT talk about Outis here. I can't believe that thread is 13 pages long and still going strong. As for their release tactics being unethical, maybe. Unethical/sketchy but evidently quite efficient. Nobody died in the process so I am not about to get my panties in a bunch over that. Here, I'll get this thread back on track. Why is it that people feel the need to specify that what they just wrote is 'their humble opinion' or 'their two cents' or whatever. Of course it is YOUR opinion because YOU just wrote whatever you did in the post YOU just wrote and YOU are writing in YOUR own name and not in every forum member's name. IMHO, people shouldn't need to specify that what they just wrote is their humble opinion. Just say what you have to say and leave it at that. Also, writing in CAPS is overrated.
P.S. I'm just having a laugh here MMMike in case my humour comes across as if I were having a jab at you. Sometimes the tone of what's being written isn't so obvious. I don't really mind people specifing that what they just wrote is their humble opinion. But the CAPS thing I really find irritating.

I will say I hear you with the IMO and IMHO. At the same time it gets to me more when people say things like prices will only increase and other statements that are stated as if they were fact. So I use IMO just to make it clear that I have no delusions of great insight on most of these things.
It reminds me of a great quote by Dali
" Every morning when I wake up, I experience an exquisite joy — the joy of being Salvador Dalí — and I ask myself in rapture: What wonderful things is this Salvador Dalí going to accomplish today?"
I'm no Dali (thank god)

MMMike rants about other posts, by saint on Feb 14, 2014 14:38:32 GMT 1, You know what really grinds my gears?
I get really pissed off with people calling themselves street artists when they've put up a fucking sticker, or if they're feeling really adventurous a badly made wheatpaste of some generic piece of crap with their name in HUGE letters badly superimposed on photoshop without any understanding of how to make it look like part of the image. Not to mention stencil artists who have never left their house holding a can of paint and who's idea of street art is to paint a stencil on a canvas in the warmth of their dads garage with the electric heater on and a cup of cocoa that mum made for them, and then leave it on a wall as a 'street art drop'.
GROW SOME BALLS.
Go do what you tell your friends you do, and PAINT the streets.
Stop advertising yourself as a street artist when you do fuck all on the streets.
Man the fuck up as my missus often says.

The worst thing that the rise in popularity of Banksy and the graf scene in general has produced is the arm chair artists who are too shit to use a paintbrush to paint anything worth seeing who have decided that spraying a badly cut 1 layer stencil piece on canvas of an over used cliché of an idea without ever leaving their home is a good idea. Stencils have made it easy, and so called artists lazy. Not saying all stencil artists of course, and as i have said many times if you take a badly cut stencil out and you spray the streets then great, but don't do it once, then decide that the world wants it on their walls and make a canvas edition of 100.
