Agreed. Would much rather have a standard version.

Couldn't agree more! Hand finishing is not complimentary at all imo.

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by seidbereit on May 14, 2008 10:00:25 GMT 1, This stinks of Laz again... It can't be a coincidence that "hand-finished" versions a standard SG print come out in quick succession where Laz represents both artists (added to the hand-finished Conor Harringtons as a non-SG example). As for the hand-finishing itself it's certainly not of the lazy sloppy quality 3D produced but I'm not too convinced that it adds anything to the original. In all, this is a really disappointing trend though.

I agree. Sad to see 'hand finished' means someone scuffed the print up with a tire or sprayed some unnecessary paint here and there.

Call me cynical, but what this is - is creating an affordable product for every level of the market - kind of like the way car manafacturers have 5 different versions of the same car to capture every budget - expect to see it become the 'norm'
The lucky few on a tighter budget get the 'standard' print.
Can't afford an original, but want something a bit better than the bog-standard? Get a hand finished.
Money to burn? - here's an original.

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by waveydavey on May 14, 2008 10:34:28 GMT 1, Its nice that the artist has made your print unique and worth paying a few quid extra for. Conor harringtons hand finished print and book were great. However I am not sure what this adds. Why didn't paul just hand finish some of the detail on the print?
BTW there is a CH book on ebay now. Not mine but if someone desparately wants one should be worth checking out as I doubt many people with these are gonna be willing to give them up.

A fair point and I expect it's precisely that sort of strategy they're going for however I do think it's a little (well very, actually) cheeky just taking the leftovers of a standard print which should have ended up in a shredder and daubing them up a bit to call it new art. I'd have absolutely no problems if they'd done a WTB with, say, a gold background and then added a few splatters as they could still target the same "class" of buyer/collector without stiffing the chap who has to settle for the standard print.

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by Billy Sport on May 14, 2008 11:06:34 GMT 1, Hi if i can ever work out how to attach pics I'll put some on.
Mines different from the one shown, no raleigh racer track marks. In defence of the pricing, the standard version seems to be selling around £500-550 mark, so if you were after one of these, what would you rather have? I understand the image is not to everyones taste..
I loved the image and was thinking of paying £500+ on ebay so when i saw this at POW, I was happy..

recent laz hand-finished prints would be considered seconds by most shops standards!

This is spot on... How do you know now than anything you get from PoW won't reappear soon after in a different edition size/style. They need to be up front from the off about exactly what editions of prints will be appearing.

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by snakes on May 14, 2008 21:55:28 GMT 1, sorry but these are real poop.
I take it all the old prints off of the shelves are getting recycled once all of the damaged prints have been replaced (which is a very good effort in reducing the carbon footprint and most commendable). They then get left in a nursery full of a gangs of todlers with a handfulls of crayola's and bingo we have hand finished prints!
