Both of you don't provide me any hard facts. If you and BNE have a phone call for 3 hours and you don't trust, fine. I still don't understand why you publish just minutes after his release. You had the facts on his website that prompted you to respond to PC, you had a three hour phone call with BNE, a phone call which he talks about Banksy......a few hours ago you said that you were not sure that he was doing something with Banksy. Banksy+BNE for World Water Day, by met on Mar 29, 2014 4:00:59 GMT 1, I gave BNE his first exhibit in 2009, it was written up by the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/09/nyregion/09bne.html?). Unfortunately, none of the art sold except for some of the metal prints. This left him very unhappy. Shortly after, he left NYC after getting into beef with ADEK and other writers, and told me he went to Indonesia to start a charity. He showed me the site the minute it launched in 2010 I believe—not sure about exact date here. I even gave him some advice on how to tighten up his bio. However, apart from some photos of kids holding his stickers, I just didn't believe him. He asked me to do a post about BNE.org on ANIMAL and I said no. That really made him angry. I told him that despite our history I needed proof. I told him to how me a 501c3 filing or a financial record. He had neither. We fell out of contact and then when I noticed that he changed the mission of the organization from a charity that donates 100% to a non profit that donates about 20% of proceeds. Since I was already skeptical, I started to ask him questions about the tees made by Invader, Shepard and Faile. I asked him why some people claim he oversold the Inavder tees. I asked him why he's only giving 20% of revenue to Charity Water, a legit that charity that he learned about on ANIMAL when I gave them free ad space years ago. I asked why he didn't just connect the artists directly to CW so they could get 100%. These questions also rubbed him the wrong way. Thats why when I started seeing those flyers go up, I was already skeptical. How couldn't I be? We then spoke on the phone for 3 hours and he lied to me about how Banksy liked what he was doing so much that Banksy told him he could keep 75% of revenue and would only have to donate 25% to CW. This raised a huge red flag. Why would Banksy, who has worked on numerous charitable initiatives, do a deal where the charity doesn't get 100%? That's the antithesis of charity. So I wrote PC, got their response, and then had to wait to see if he would actually go through with it. I assumed at the last minute he'd unfurl his own design and say "ha ha" thanks for lending me your celebrity Banksy. That of course didn't happen and instead he actually went through with it and landed himself in the debacle he's currently in. Knowing there would be a lot of scrutiny, I brought in investigative journalist Matt Harvey, who has won several awards, to share the byline. I informed of my past with BNE and told him to take the lead on the story which he did, precisely because I knew this would come up and cause a huge conspiracy. Keep in mind, I know BNE. I know his real name, where he's from and what he looks like. I have photos of him. If I really wanted to grind him into dust I could've, but despite our not being friends, I do have respect for his street bombing career. I also don't use ANIMAL to settle scores. We've done thousands of stories and have a great track record. I have a friend who does screenprinting for concert shirts etc. and he told me the same thing. You can order blanks from american apparel (if you want us made) and could easily have 1000 delivered and printed within a week or two tops. Plus I thought BNE was all about using the best fair trade organic tee shirts. He spent a lot of time talking up the company he was going to use, but now he switched to some other random company that he doesn't give the same type of detail about just to speed things up a couple of weeks? It just seems like every statement he puts out is more and more misleading. So I find it hard to trust him or his motives. I hope I'm wrong and he is good person that just put himself in a tough spot, but that looks less and less likely the more information that comes out. Of course that is just my opinion. |

Of course that is just my opinion. it's an important point, but my understanding was that BNE was saying he was going to use a different company to manufacture the tees, not for the silkscreening per se. is it not possible that a less conscientious company than the original one that BNE so proudly described could make the tees faster? |

Selling a T-shirt for 1280$? Really? What the h*ll has that kind of money to do with a cotton shirt? For an unnamed charity? So the person who "donates" doesnt even know if he/she agrees with the cause... I have been curious about seeing how this pans out and havent got the refund yet. Now I most certainly will. (If I bother to)

I did not read this forum at that moment, but I found out about the shirt from a fake Banksy twitter account, which obviously rang all the alarm bells.. I still bought the shirt because the cost was reasonable, BNE was fairly well known and there was practically no risk because it was paid with Paypal. And I thought I could attach my urban art hobby for doing some charity, which I rarely manage to drag my lazy arse doing but active people have my full respect. Oh well, no need to hawk my 55' Samsung (recommended) to cover my losses as Paypal is so consumer friendly and offers a risk free method of buying. |

He showed me the site the minute it launched in 2010 I believe—not sure about exact date here. I even gave him some advice on how to tighten up his bio. However, apart from some photos of kids holding his stickers, I just didn't believe him. He asked me to do a post about BNE.org on ANIMAL and I said no. That really made him angry. I told him that despite our history I needed proof. I told him to how me a 501c3 filing or a financial record. He had neither. We fell out of contact and then when I noticed that he changed the mission of the organization from a charity that donates 100% to a non profit that donates about 20% of proceeds. Since I was already skeptical, I started to ask him questions about the tees made by Invader, Shepard and Faile. I asked him why some people claim he oversold the Inavder tees. I asked him why he's only giving 20% of revenue to Charity Water, a legit that charity that he learned about on ANIMAL when I gave them free ad space years ago. I asked why he didn't just connect the artists directly to CW so they could get 100%. These questions also rubbed him the wrong way. Thats why when I started seeing those flyers go up, I was already skeptical. How couldn't I be? We then spoke on the phone for 3 hours and he lied to me about how Banksy liked what he was doing so much that Banksy told him he could keep 75% of revenue and would only have to donate 25% to CW. This raised a huge red flag. Why would Banksy, who has worked on numerous charitable initiatives, do a deal where the charity doesn't get 100%? That's the antithesis of charity. So I wrote PC, got their response, and then had to wait to see if he would actually go through with it. I assumed at the last minute he'd unfurl his own design and say "ha ha" thanks for lending me your celebrity Banksy. That of course didn't happen and instead he actually went through with it and landed himself in the debacle he's currently in. Knowing there would be a lot of scrutiny, I brought in investigative journalist Matt Harvey, who has won several awards, to share the byline. I informed of my past with BNE and told him to take the lead on the story which he did, precisely because I knew this would come up and cause a huge conspiracy. Keep in mind, I know BNE. I know his real name, where he's from and what he looks like. I have photos of him. If I really wanted to grind him into dust I could've, but despite our not being friends, I do have respect for his street bombing career. I also don't use ANIMAL to settle scores. We've done thousands of stories and have a great track record. Now I know someone will whip this up into a new conspiracy, because that's how most of these participants on this forum work, but at least the back story is now on the record. Interesting read! Still not sure what i believe (not meant in any disrespectful way!), so leaving the refund still. But cheers for the answer, all interesting info. will carry on watching and wondering. |

Personally. I think BNE can't be trusted now. I don't know whether he intentionally tried to scam people or not but there's certainly something not quite right there.
Don't actually think Buckys done much wrong. Fact is he's not one of the community he's got no obligation to put his neck out to try stop people buying those shirts- which I happened to do. If Bucky had run the story early, BNE would of changed tact. Instead he waited and called him out. Would It of been better to know beforehand? Yeah probably but to be fair this was probably the only way to catch BNE out.
....not too keen on the hang comment mind. Or the snake pit thing but unlike BNE at least he's here answering questions- even if he does seem a bit of an arsehole
