Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by jlf on Nov 13, 2014 13:37:25 GMT 1, Just out of interest with these time releases do they still get numbered or is it mystery how many are out there?
Quite like the idea of this as it means you don't have to be there 2 seconds after release or pay over the odds on eBay to secure them
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

Usually still numbered. Edition size is dictated by how many people buy during the release window.

Purchased way to much recently and about to spend a whole load getting sash windows overhauled and draught proofed but no way am I missing this one!

Same here I really want a revok but no funds, my wife made a cheeky (her second ever) purchase on a 1/1 otto schade's release a few days ago from graffiti prints. I like this print but agree I'm hoping there may be a Bast release or a micallef or something nicer coming up before Xmas...
Maybe a good idea to have a Xmas print release thread, keep everything together?? One of the mods on here can keep it updated?

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by Warm Gun on Nov 13, 2014 23:14:30 GMT 1, So what happened to make him change his mind........again? Bit of a clusterf*** this release, he is, he isn't he is again. Just make him look a bit daft.
"A couple of days ago we announced that Hypostasis would be released as a timed release, but we've changed our minds. After much discussion we feel releasing Hypostasis as a print would be a betrayal to those who have the original Red Cosmonaut print.
Hypostasis was a commissioned piece intended as a reimagining of the themes of Red Cosmonaut. As such it has a very similar feel and quality to the Red Cosmonaut.
Our prints provide an archive of the progression of my painting, cataloguing where I've been and where I am going. Hypostasis was an enjoyable painting to create, and a fun place to revisit, but its release as a print doesnβt fall within our mantra for what should be released.
We're sorry to be changing our minds, and I apologise to those who were looking forward to this release. At the end of the day we are driven by what feels ethical, and this is a decision we feel we needed to make.
thanks,
Jem"

He took the "high road" earlier, changed his mind and then went for it. Now a lot of people are happy. Maybe the few who where sulking at the time have calmed down? Really doesn't seem that daft to me.

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by doctor on Nov 13, 2014 23:38:39 GMT 1, I wouldn't call it the high road. I think it was a knee jerk reaction to probably one or two angry emails. His response on his blog is perfect: Angry blogger wrote- "Don't know what changed in the last 6 months, but as an owner of the red cosmonaut print, I have to say pretty disappointed at the similarity of the image and size of print. I know many, many more people will be happy to get this new print at cost, but think there will be about 200 people who won't be."
Geddes replied- "Sorry you feel that way. Over the last six months I've thought about the relationship between the two paintings and concluded that they are distinct paintings that share a similar aesthetic. Like White Cosmonaut and Redemption, or Ascent and Adrift, they have different emotional cores, and so my issue with creating a print release for Hypostasis disappeared.
I have heard from other owners of your print who want a print of Hypostasis, so not all the 200 people feel like you do. Their comments in part helped me rethink the issue and come to the different conclusion.
I'm not taking away your Red Cosmonaut print, and I hope you still get enjoyment out of it. "

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by Deleted on Nov 13, 2014 23:44:14 GMT 1, Money trumps principle basically
If he needs the cash and doesn't have a new cosmonaut image to use, then so be it. It's way too similar to another of his prints for me though.

" Perfect indeed...
I truly can not understand how anyone would be upset by this release... great image, great price, allows everyone a chance to buy one...
Regarding the image similarity. They are DIFFERENT images... similar... yes, but definitely not the same. More like one and two of a series...
In my opinion the only legitimate reason for someone being upset would be if they bought Red Cosmonaut in the secondary market and paid an exorbitant sum. Even then, I struggle with the legitimacy of anger, because one obviously could have waited for another print release. I mean, it isn't like Geddes' subject matter changes THAT much...
Otherwise be happy with your limited edition print... while it's value may take a short term hit, I am sure the investor types will be patient enough for it to rebound.

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by randomname on Nov 14, 2014 15:49:28 GMT 1, I really don't see the problem. By this standard, half of Hush's prints would be a betrayal of everyone who bought his first geisha. If you're worried that the value of your print is going to go down, you probably bought it for the wrong reason.
