Question regarding the price of an U/S Banksy Print, by bullysonzx10r on Jun 20, 2014 21:08:10 GMT 1, I'm not judging, but there seems so many posts from people who want a "Banksy print" The prices are too high to be buying a "Banksy print" just because it's in a price range rather than because you love that particular image or message. I always think the buyer wants it for the "Banksy on my wall" factor or as a pure investment. Now if someone posts " Hey I want a Banksy print of that copper with his finger up ... whats that going to cost me ? Ouch really ?" , then that feels like it's about the art rather than the ownage. Personally, I accept that the boat has sailed for me financially for owning any Banksy work. But that's fine because I still love the images and there's some great affordable artists trying to make a living out of art that I can hang on my walls. While I completely agree with almost everything you've said, I think in defense of those of us who would just like to own a solid authorized piece that Banksy created I would say that Banksy is much different than most street artist.
While I generally only buy art that moves me -- Usually without seeking out a specific artist at all, There are a few artists that I would be willing to own just about anything by. Most of them are Dead Modernists, some are contemporaries, and Banksy is one that falls into the Contemporary/ Street Artist/ Political Artist category.
If someone was to give me an opportunity at a Basquiat on the back of a brown paper bag, and it was in a feasible price range, I'd figure out a way to own that piece regardless of the image. He's iconic to me, and his work is moving enough to still be entranced by images that otherwise wouldn't mean as much. The same goes for Rothko, Warhol or Pollock -- for me.
With Banksy, maybe one day he will be looked at as rubbish, or maybe one day his work will be in important museums where people travel thousands of miles just to hope that it's part of the 1% of a collection that is currently displayed. But while I may have missed the affordability boat on a few prime print images of his, There are quite a few others that I enjoy heavily, that are in a price range I would consider.
So when I expressed interest in a general way, it wasn't saying "I just want to own a Banksy" (although I do) It was more saying, "Of the unsigned prints that are available at a cost I'm comfortable with, I would like to find out if a community of like minded enthusiasts think that the pricing now is solid, so that I could get serious about considering the Prints I like."

Question regarding the price of an U/S Banksy Print, by Deleted on Jun 26, 2014 11:22:59 GMT 1, drewatts always downgrade their estimates and there is a buyers premium of 30% IIRC -do your homework!
the HMV will be more like 4K than 1.5K. imho
