Sorry, that wasn't meant to be offensive. But I can see how it would carry a different connotation in Germany than in America.

It's not an offensive reference in America. Just google Blitzkrieg and let me know how many reputable news sources have used it in reference to the game.

Showing a photo of a WW2 German soldier with a totally destroyed town in the background and 'Blitzkrieg' down the bottom IS offensive and to say otherwise is just insulting everybody's intelligence.

He can put as much spin and quote as many sources telling you it isn't offensive as he likes. Trying to be clever and implying his post had nothing to do with the war doesn't really work with the photo of the soldier in it.

Now, can we all get back to the football without any more ignorant comments about the war.

Can anyone beat the Germans when they showed us a display like that? I'd love to see Holland do it but I just can't see anyone beating a team like that who were like robots and just didn't seem to make any mistakes (ok they conceded 1 goal!!)

I agree with you about the Brazilian fans, it was great to see them applauding the Germans playing. As Juninho said when they interviewed him they just appreciate great football and what the Germans produced was top drawer football. 

Germany wouldn't be my number 1 team I'd like to see win but if they keep playing football the way they played last night then I'd be happy for them to be crowned as champions. I'm not sure we'll see another score quite like that as Brazil were truly terrible and I don't think any of the remaining teams will be quite that bad. 

It is easy with hindsight to recall being impressed by that young German team from the last World Cup and pundits predicting big things for them. 4 years is a long time in football, but lo and behold ...

The romance of samba style football has all but been killed off by clinical German efficiency. Is there a chance to restore some personal and national pride in the playoff for 3rd???
