I agree. It's pathetic and very offensive but most of all it's all just sooooo boring now.

Off-Topic: World Cup final four, by randomname on Jul 9, 2014 1:22:13 GMT 1, Sorry, that wasn't meant to be offensive. But I can see how it would carry a different connotation in Germany than in America. Blitzkrieg from world war two, not meant to be offencive?! Take your s**tface out of here I don't think I've told you to go fuck yourself yet, so allow me to do that now. Go fuck yourself.
It's not an offensive reference in America. Just google Blitzkrieg and let me know how many reputable news sources have used it in reference to the game.
From The Wall Street Journal:
There hasn't been a bigger blitzkrieg than Germany's 7-1 crushing of Brazil in Tuesday's semifinal match since you know when.
From Newsweek:
It is a German word, but no terms is more appropriate for what transpired at Estadio Mineirao: blitzkrieg. The German attack was relentless, breaking both records and the will of the Brazilian players and the partisan crowd.
From The New York Daily News:
Finally, in the 29th minute, Sami Khedira finished off the five-goal blitzkrieg with a sharp, right-foot shot from 16 yards.
From the Guardian:
The 36-year old German striker collected the rebound off of Cesar and sent the ball into the net for his World Cup record 16th career goal, passing Ronaldo. Die Manschaft began to unleash a blitzkrieg of goals.

In America there is no offensive connotation to the term.
It's even in the American English dictionaries, with the straight-forward meaning of 'a fast and powerful effort' and 'a sudden and overwhelming attack'.
Sporting-wise, in American football its actually the term for a play. A 'blitz'(short for blitzkrieg') is when players are sent to rush the quarterback.

Off-Topic: World Cup final four, by Deleted on Jul 9, 2014 8:44:26 GMT 1, Showing a photo of a WW2 German soldier with a totally destroyed town in the background and 'Blitzkrieg' down the bottom IS offensive and to say otherwise is just insulting everybody's intelligence.
He can put as much spin and quote as many sources telling you it isn't offensive as he likes. Trying to be clever and implying his post had nothing to do with the war doesn't really work with the photo of the soldier in it.
Now, can we all get back to the football without any more ignorant comments about the war.
Can anyone beat the Germans when they showed us a display like that? I'd love to see Holland do it but I just can't see anyone beating a team like that who were like robots and just didn't seem to make any mistakes (ok they conceded 1 goal!!)

Off-Topic: World Cup final four, by balibob on Jul 9, 2014 9:38:30 GMT 1, Fantastic display by the Germans, but how appalling were Brazil? I still can't believe they got so far. Scolari must have been caught banging Fred's wife, their can be no other reason why he started all the games and was still on after 20 minutes, even the Brazilian fans were booing him. On a more positive note, how nice to see the Brazilian fans applauding Germany's 7th goal and giving it the Ole when they were stroking it around at the end. Hopefully Argentina will be found out tonight as they have been almost as bad. Come on you Dutchies.

I agree with you about the Brazilian fans, it was great to see them applauding the Germans playing. As Juninho said when they interviewed him they just appreciate great football and what the Germans produced was top drawer football.
Germany wouldn't be my number 1 team I'd like to see win but if they keep playing football the way they played last night then I'd be happy for them to be crowned as champions. I'm not sure we'll see another score quite like that as Brazil were truly terrible and I don't think any of the remaining teams will be quite that bad.

I'm feeling rather pleased this morning as i backed Muller 1st goal scorer and at HT took a punt on there being 8 goals in total

The romance of samba style football has all but been killed off by clinical German efficiency. Is there a chance to restore some personal and national pride in the playoff for 3rd???
