It's too close to Russia's borders and too many Ukr/Russians there. There is a huge amount of history between Russia and Ukraine and regardless what the UK and America say yes they are independent but they also need to understand the relationship/geographical location with Russia. Eg from a Russian perspective of course they can't join the funking EU and NATO. Just as the US hated any communist gov'ts in Latin America back in the 70's. I am not supporting Putin or Russia but there is a bit of inevitability to this.
it will be interesting to see the outcome. As not sure the Russians/Putin can let it happen and therefore they won't. He will keep banging away till there is a piece of paper that says no EU and no NATO. Think the sooner that happens the better IMO.

It's on their border so regardless of the rights and wrongs Russia ain't gonna let it join NATO or the EU. iI am not supporting Russia just saying it as I am seeing it. The reality of the situ. The Russian enclaves and they do exist because of the old Soviet Union are also strong because they tend to come from old Russian military families. So it is all a bit of a mess.
If it happens it also sets a precedent for the States all along Russia's border so Russia isn't going to let that happen as I see it. It also seems to me pretty obvious to both the Ukraine Govt and Europe so they need to solve this more than Russia does as for the Russian army it's a play ground.
