The Connor Brothers ๐ฌ๐ง Mike Snelle & James Golding, by Leotard on Aug 20, 2019 18:23:10 GMT 1, Hi! looking for the following: The Connor Brothers Why Fit In When You Were Born To Stand Out Call me anything but Ordinary. Other works Might be if of interest aswell Big or small I like the picture and the Dr. Seuss quote. Though I feel like the text on your charlatan copy is taking up a bit to much of the picture for my liking. Thanks for reaching out!No worries at all. Easy to understand why my offering is far less attractive than a genuine Connorย Brothers print. In truth, it's the poor man's option for people like me โ who love and covet their images, but can no longer afford them. We're reduced to abandoning our principles and purchasing cheap knockoffs from chancers such as Robertย Maguire. __________ By the way, I noticed Call Me Anything But Ordinary has since been added to your 'Wanted' list. That's another beautiful image by the Con norย Brothers. It truly demonstrates their technical prowess. And decisively as well. [To any naysayers out there, you guys haven't got a clue. Take a close look at the artwork, and then tell me the Connorย Brothers lack painterly skill.]Sadly, however, Call Me Anything But Ordinary is also too rich for my blood. I ended up getting a small ripoff version on eB ay for $14.99, which initially came with a bunch of reading material attached. My copy was churned out by yet another charlatan, called Louย Marchetti. Looks like it was quickly scanned from a Con norย Brothers original, and then repackaged with minimal effort in Photoshop. Moreover, Marchetti seems to be trying to take all the credit for the work, hiding the fact he flagrantly stole the image circa 1955. And the added new title, Of a Strange Woman, isn't even funny. If he was trying to ape the Con norย Brothers back then, Marchetti should at least have done what they did: Buy a book of quotes from Amazon so he could take his pick of the clever ones. __________ In this day and age, it's a dismal truth that talented artists attract thieving opportunists. And of course, in buying work from parasites like Louย Marchetti (instead of saving up until I can afford an authentic piece by the Con norย Brothers), I'm conscious that I too am part of the problem. But hey-ho. I liked the image. And I wanted the image, even if mine is pretty much a carbon copy of the real thing. As they often say on this message board, "Needs must!"
Wonderful stuff Met !

These charlatans are unbelievable. Why is there still a section dedicated to them on this forum?

The Connor Brothers ๐ฌ๐ง Mike Snelle & James Golding, by Stonetown on Aug 22, 2019 21:38:45 GMT 1, I know that the other CB wanted thread is still going but its devolved a bit from a wanted thread to a 'wanted dead or alive' thread. Dont get me wrong...its a good thread and 100% correct. But I would still like to acquire a couple of their prints/art. Given that they are frauds, I dont want to give THEM money by buying from a gallery. But I would like to give it to you if you're interested in getting rid of them. You see I have a few prints I'd like to hang which means I need to compromise with my wife to do so. She likes the CB stuff and has no knowledge of their behaviour. Hanging the CB stuff gets me what I want. So with that being said, if you have any for sale can you PM me or post so I can reach out? Thanks for understanding.

Would that be an image of Hank in the background?
If so, good to see another fan on this message board. The first page of Post Office was enough to get me hooked.
__________
As for the print, there follows a clearer photo.
It's my own copy from circa 1950. Lacks the stolen Bukowski quote, but everything else seems the same.
[By way of aside, the work of Calder Willingham* also merits checking out if members haven't already done so.]

You answered my question (ie who did they plagiarise this time)
But I think that it is fairly priced given market rates, so GLWTS.

The Connor Brothers ๐ฌ๐ง Mike Snelle & James Golding, by met on Sept 3, 2019 21:14:41 GMT 1,
Excellent piece from the Connor Brothers, although probably outside my budget.
Unless additional funds can be raised, I'll have to settle for my knockoff version (below on the left). It was released circa 1952 by some nobody called Herman Bischoff โ one of the many plagiarists of the duo.
__________
Mine is an offset lithograph. It isn't even a decent copy either, because the text is all wrong. If Bischoff made the effort of scanning an image of the original painting by the Connor Brothers, then why, oh why did he not also steal the quote from The Importance of Being Earnest?
Makes no sense. As a quip, The Life and Death of the Wicked Lady Skelton lacks wit. It barely sounds like Oscar Wilde.
You get what you pay for, of course. And my print only cost 50 pence at a charity shop. But I still find the whole situation grating.
__________
Apologies to everybody for whining. That's the envy talking; it isn't really me.
I'm just depressed to be priced out of the market for genuine artwork by the Connor Brothers.

Could not disagree more. I look out for his posts; a highlight on this forum. Intelligent and witty.

The Connor Brothers ๐ฌ๐ง Mike Snelle & James Golding, by Chris JL on Sept 3, 2019 23:41:01 GMT 1, Excellent piece from the Connorย Brothers, although probably outside my budget. Unless additional funds can be raised, I'll have to settle for my knockoff version (below on the left). It was released circa 1952 by some nobody called Hermanย Bischoff โ one of the many plagiarists of the duo. __________ Mine is an offset lithograph. It isn't even a decent copy either, because the text is all wrong. If Bischoff made the effort of scanning an image of the original painting by the Con nor Brothers, then why, oh why did he not also steal the quote from Theย Importance of Being Earnest? Makes no sense. As a quip, Theย Life and Death of the Wicked Lady Skelton lacks wit. It barely sounds like Oscarย Wilde. You get what you pay for, of course. And my print only cost 50ย pence at a charity shop. But I still find the whole situation grating. __________ Apologies to everybody for whining. That's the envy talking; it isn't really me. I'm just depressed to be priced out of the market for genuine artwork by the Con norย Brothers. Instead of apologising for โwhiningโ what about just deleting your post? Yet again youโre trolling someoneโs sales thread! You did the same to me..itโs bad form!
In met defence (albeit I donโt believe he needs any):
1. This is actually not a sale thread, and people (count at least me in) might appreciate knowing more about the artworks they are looking for.
2. This is actually an art forum, not a poor manโs version of eBay, hence discussing the cultural references (or the basis of plagiarism - I leave this to you to decide) of the artworks should be more than fair game. If anything, it should be encouraged.
3. Iโm actually thankful to him for regularly posting the source images of the Con Brothersโ works, since Iโm quite curious about them (and too lazy to do a reverse image search). The reason being that I often like the images they use, hence I like to know who actually made them.
4. Sometimes he sounds pedantic to you? To paraphrase (or plagiarise?) โBut then again, who doesnโt?โ

They are but surely instead of trolling membersโ sales threads why not just troll the โartistsโ if he has such an issue with them?

The Connor Brothers ๐ฌ๐ง Mike Snelle & James Golding, by met on Sept 16, 2019 2:48:30 GMT 1, Hi guys, Selling a few Connor Brotthers prints if anyone is interested? [...]
Beautiful piece by the Connor Brothers.
Just look at that eye. And that mouth. One can't help but be impressed by their skill as painters.
__________
For financial reasons, I took the cheapskate path of getting a knockoff (see below). It was churned out by James Meese, some faux artist who, in 1955, released scanned copies of the Connor Brothers' original artwork.
Although not genuine, mine was only $4.95 on eBay. Pretty good deal.
Sadly, however, my print also has different text โ which simply doesn't possess the same depth as a good quote stolen from John Updike.
