Whatson, by tab1 on Oct 13, 2014 17:33:15 GMT 1, I've certainly not attacked him . I own some of his work and I like what I have . Just pretty fed up of the same old ..if he released un tagged prints I would certainly buy again if I liked the image . It just seems everything is tagged over now . Sorry to of offended some of you less is more released recently , untagged... realistically shouldnt matter if print a month ,im sure we dont need every print released ., as previous poster stated not all follow the artists whole careers / output and buy the nice colourful themes ...
off topic , great profile vid!
a chinook hearts should be done with tagged hearts , set on the grey background , ill snap that up!

Whatson, by dazarino on Oct 13, 2014 17:37:07 GMT 1, This thread has got silly. If your bored of whatsons tagging prints then just don't buy them!!!
I've had friends come over to my place and see my David canvas on the wall and ask where they can get some of his work . I know 3 non art collecting friends who have tried/trying to buy his prints with no luck as they instantly sell out. I guarantee they will keep trying until they get one as well.
There are plenty of people out there who would love a whatson tagged print and will be quite happy if he continues to sell more

Whatson, by eschiff on Oct 13, 2014 17:40:19 GMT 1, First of all sorry to whatson he begs me not to post on here in his defence ever! but I love him to bits and can not help myself, he is my mate and I love his work! I always surprised by comments here and IMO the lack of understanding Of the way the art market works. Comments like I now have champagne tastes Poster Bob are just ugly no matter how I look at it. So un street and would have been kicked all over years ago here even if people agreed what you said. Always the same old posters/haters trying to prove what? More exposer or success there target gets worse the hate and comments get! Most buyers don't read blogs or forums, that's what I found anyway no matter what you want to believe Flippers and passionate lovers of streetart read them, they are only 10% of the buying market max I am surprised rj did not come and pose the comments to whatson, other artists and myself. we were all in the same hotel in clear sight but no he choose to say it from behind a keyboard, so easy to shout anything from there! Wow, really? No wonder he doesn't want you to post here, you come off pretty poorly. Whether or not martin is a nice guy (and having met him i think he's swell) has nothing to do with people being allowed to voice an opinion on his art.
And RJ wasn't shouting from a keyboard, he wrote a pretty in-depth analysis of why the work didn't belong in the festival. Again, whether or not you like RJ isn't really material to the disucssion, he's been passionate about street art for years and knows what he's writing about and is entitled to his opinion.
Whatson has hit a niche, and in the process made you and him a lot of money, that's fine, that's consumerism but what he hasn't done in a lot of our opinions is anything worthwhile that adds to the wider art community other than rehashed, IKEA friendly prints.
And you're posting on an art forum fella! Your comment about the relevance of this forum is really strange. Perhaps listen to Martin next time.

Can he not do a tagged and un tagged edition , graffiti prints and himself would make more money and might even keep the anti tagging robots, crew , haters , people happy

No-one's arguing that people shouldn't by it if they love it @wiz, to each their own. But those trying to stop people from voicing a dissenting opinion come off as childishly defensive.

Whatson, by natstan on Oct 13, 2014 17:45:04 GMT 1, Another point is that "YOU" may be tired of his tagging crap .. but many people are just now hearing about him. Just because you spend hours on end on this forum and think it is tiring and old doesnt mean that some person walking into a gallery and seeing a Whatson piece for the first time shouldn't get to form their own opinion. just say you dont like something and move on. dont be critical the artist and everyone around them who enjoy it. geez.. this is the same conversation going on in the Nick Walker thread. NOTE: changed a word to "be critical" from "attack".. typing faster than thinking this morning A behavioural pattern in the appreciation of Whatson's works - one starts by learning about his works through internet and forums, and then start looking for more of his works and getting all excited about this artist. Then that excitement peaks everytime GP releases a print and subsequently failing to get one (sometimes this stage might be followed by an impulse to look at the bay for substantially marked up prints just released hours or days before). Then he realise he can't bear to spend that kinda money everytime before he slowly but surely realise every image revolve around that same concept (stenciled pretty image followed by taggings to mask a section of it). Repulsion sets in.
At least I went through that! That same experience might just be felt by every newbie... Lol

Whatson, by Happy Shopper on Oct 13, 2014 17:55:48 GMT 1, Nothing wrong with voicing an opinion, and dismay sometimes at what sells, but leave it at that IMO.
I'm sure I'm guilty of taking things too far sometimes, but there shouldn't be any need to argue about what's good or not.
If it sells, then someone must like it... or they're easily sucked into the hype!

Unstreet? That's ironic coming from you.
Yes there is some hate in this thread and also some great comments, as an artist it comes with the territory.
What does it matter what buyers read or if they are on this blog, why do you post here if buyers aren't here? You make a living utilizing this blog and its market, yet you want to demean its importance?
So if only flippers and enthusiasts read this forums where is the other 90% hiding?
Rj doesn't need to come on here or walk up to you in person and tap you on the shoulder and say I don't like your work. Being a critic involves writing and a keyboard using it to address issues they want to write about. I don't think anyone would need to hide behind one for fear of a street artist or printer like yourself? Would intimidation of telling you in person somehow Change things? I appreciate anyone being critical especially involving street art, in order for our genre to move forward we have to become critical of ourselves. Atleast RJ is knowledgable about the genre would you rather have some nobody who has no clue bash Whatson? In the end the artist will do what he needs and wants to do, you will continue to make money and in the end it means nothing. Those that buy buy and those that don't like his art will continue to do so, what hasn't come about in your response is an actual response to the article in a critical manner. You haven't addressed anything other than general issues about this forum and the market. Why not tell us why you defend Whatson, why is he great, why is he relevant, why RJ is wrong? Yet you choose to talk about issues of no relevance to the article or the artist. Which is typical from my dealings with you in this forum.

Not everyone is going to like the same artists, but I agree with some of the other posts saying that if you're doing to slam an artist on a public forum, at least have your critiques be well thought out and informative .
Yes, he's done a lot of tagging pieces lately. But that's not his whole body of work. And his pieces are extremely technically well done

His wife mrs early could be put into that bracket though.

An image can catch your eye and make you happy, but sometimes you can't put it into words what you like about it And there you have it folks care to elaborate? you've never liked an image just because it caught your eye?
or you've never not liked an image because it didn't?

Whatson, by Poster Bob on Oct 13, 2014 22:52:15 GMT 1, Well I think the man hands and beast face speak for themselves. I like the "beast face". not everyone's face is the same, perfectly symmetrical, model-esque face. There are many women who have masculine features, but they are beautiful in their own way You can't look at it and say it's technically well done. It's very poor.

I don't think it's a 10/10, but I think overall yes, it is an extremely well done piece.
(Just for the record, no, I don't own this print)
