Girl in the Red Dress possible sale, by Zippy on Feb 1, 2008 23:37:43 GMT 1, It was from a small run and only a 'select few' were allowed to buy one. I asked but was not allowed! This is why they do not come up for sale as often as other Micallef pieces. You were invited to buy one of you had bought an Original. So those people did and have mainly kept them. A lot of people have never seen it which adds to its mystery. Its beautiful and those lucky enough to own one (not me!) are very happy. For these reasons, its in a different league to the main run Micallef prints. Equiv to Radar Rat v other signed Banksys (I know RR has hand sprayed rings before some smart arse tells me!) I think it will easily fly past 21st CL and go for 8-9k easily. There are a lot of wealthy people out there Rural who are not affected by Mortgage rates, increasing utility bills and CC debt who will write a check out no problem. We need to remember the Art market is NOT limited to those people who post on Internet forums and religiously study ebay. Z

It was them that got the GIRD though... they were offered solely to original buyers at his Laz show...
Bloody hell, do you only read selected parts of threads?
And anyway, what's your problem, I think there are maybe 2 out of your 32 posts where you're not slagging someone off... you've managed to have a go at Micallef, Choe, Beejoir, Ian Francis, Faile... all in 32 posts...

THEY GET THE REAL DEAL FOR THEIR WALLS OR COLLECTIONS. It's not that black and white. There are collectors who purely collect works on paper, I know one who has a stunning collection of Warhol and Jasper John prints. There are others who although they will have some originals will primarily collect prints because it allows them to get a greater range of the artist's work.
The GIRD is interesting because it's an instance of a gallery acting in the same way an mainstream artist's gallery would. For that reason it is likely to hold it's value better because fewer pieces will make it to the secondary market. Try flipping a Hockney print and watch what happens if you want bloodshed

Fact
Which Laz price? There have been 3 different prices for each of the 3 prints they had left
And they didn't all come framed Fact

I know the prices... I don't know if there were 2 sold framed or not though
I think only one was though...
If so, 2 more have since sold for more than that price, so I am not exactly sure what he is arguing

Girl in the Red Dress possible sale, by Rude Copper on Feb 11, 2008 21:06:20 GMT 1, .........heres the thing, normally, it's pretty easy to speculate on the value of a print, you just use the form guide, look at the last one sold, maybe the one before, assess if its a bouyant or dead market, & have a punt, easy eh?, except when there's a print that bucks the trend, edition of 25, sold to loyal customers, who are'nt likely to re-sell on the 2ndary arket, whats your pointers? if somebody wants this print, & they've got the money, they'll outbid everyone, if 2 people want it, or 3, or 4, & they've got money, all your valuations will go out the window, for an example of irrational bidding with no logic, see last week at bonhams as your example, i think mic has been overcooked, & will take a long time to recover, but this print is an exception, & if your asking, i think you may see this type of release a lot more this year to encourage demand. in short, there is no-one on this board who can tell you how much this print is worth.

Girl in the Red Dress possible sale, by finsburyparkranger on Feb 11, 2008 22:06:41 GMT 1, has it got full prov and in mint cond ? i would offer you ยฃ7000 for it and pay cash
I think I can get you one for ยฃ7000 k. If you really want it.
I tell you what, I was in laz's print shop introducing a young care leaver to a different type of art from what he's used to and he loved it. He analysed all the pieces with great insight. Then after almost an hour of pouring over the work and chatting to the delightful shop assistant I asked him what his favourite artist was and he said Micallef and Tittfreak were what he'd seen and said he thought micallefs 'girl in a red dress' was the best piece and also said that he hoped to own it, one day. He loves manga and fell for the Japanese influence in the piece. I couldn't beleive it but he really fell in love with the piece. Interesting to see what fresh eye's think.

Heya, good to see you there on Sat.. small world isn't it! And yes, it was certainly interesting to watch a new set of eyes pouring over the artwork. I was thinking about this after I left because the phrase "knowing the price of everything but the value of nothing" kept turning over in my head as it struck me that I spent more time enquiring about the prices than reviewing the art!
Perhaps it is because we have all grown so accustomed to the art that sometimes we take it for granted.. and yet we can rediscover some familar pieces when we introduce them to someone new to the images..
