Laura Keeble London Treasure Hunt , by laurakeeble on Nov 7, 2014 11:21:38 GMT 1, Just a little thank you to everyone that took part in the hunt yesterday.
I was told the Matisse and Magritte coin paintings had been found. Will be interesting to see if any others are.
I really enjoy the process and the objects so will have another hunt soon.

Yep, the "Still she wished for a Harland Miller" postcard is still framed up on the wall. Love that piece. Going to have to work out a way to frame these coins and whack them up somewhere on the same wall!

Laura Keeble London Treasure Hunt , by laurakeeble on Dec 18, 2014 23:07:37 GMT 1, I only know of a few being found- depends on the finders posting somewhere to let me know. They could well end up being swept away by a street cleaner machine thingy if they are not still there.
There will be a small hunt in Southend tomorrow and I might possibly pop a coinpainting for sale online in the future ( but I'm mulling that one over, I want them to be a real treasure to the person that finds one and it also needs to be quite relevant in situ for me to do that).

Laura Keeble London Treasure Hunt , by laurakeeble on Dec 19, 2014 7:01:48 GMT 1, Thanks Ploppi, that's def something to think about. I like the idea of using ephemera from banks to frame them in some way. Ultimately though I think I kind of like the element of risk with them being so vulnerable. It's the same when I drop a large install that I've spent weeks and weeks ( sometimes months and months) creating and then it's left to go on its own journey. It can be found and loved or thrown away, it's up to the viewer. I like that there is almost another part to the coin hunt, if the finder wanted to research what they have they can but they might just have picked it up because they thought it was different or interesting and then it exists as is.
I guess for me, putting work on the street is about the importance and relevance of the situation, So it has to be site-specific in some way to work with the environment and then it needs to be about me releasing that feeling of preciousness and allowing whatever will happen to it, to happen. I don't completely understand why artwork is placed on the street to be left to the various elements ( erosion - which I find beautiful or theft-unless it's on an object that's owned by someone then I consider it to belong to them) if it's not really allowed to continue its journey. It might as well be in a gallery for a clinical viewing and a white label of text detail next to it and then put back in storage by a handler with a pair of white gloves. The beauty of putting work on the street is that it's not frozen in time, living can happen to it!

I guess it is.. Although I have signed these and I do post pictures of them on social media - so there is an element of self promotion but it's not important to me, whereas art ( particularly other peoples) is a complete obsession for me and a constant study in what it's all about.

Laura Keeble London Treasure Hunt , by laurakeeble on Dec 19, 2014 13:21:46 GMT 1, Love a custard cream and a cuppa (am partial to a dip) thank you very much for the offer .
It's a four coin hunt today, will do the first drop about 3 ish will keep Benfleet in mind and might do a hunt that way early next year. It's really nice to explore when I'm dropping the coins, as a side to the work it makes me appreciate my surroundings a whole lot more. It's interesting because painting them is such an introverted, precise, quiet, measured action and then the actual release of them is external and active ( not hunched over holding my breath to get the detail painted).

Laura Keeble London Treasure Hunt , by laurakeeble on Apr 9, 2015 16:15:14 GMT 1, Just a little heads up to anyone near the strand today / tomorrow. Have painted 11 new 2p coins of iconic album covers to coincide with the secret 7" Charity album cover artwork exhibition, at Somerset house. The coinpaintings will be left with photo clues on Twitter/ Instagram and Facebook from about 6pm tonight. Good luck if your hunting!
