I have come to the conclusion that this is such a faff as to be not worthwhile once you factor in the time it takes to make the claim, provide documentation etc.
So… an $850 Canadian purchase equates to £479. Duty on this at 20% would be £95.80. Claimable VAT would be £71.85. It'll take an hour to download the form, complete, make copies of documentation, send form (got to be registered to be sure it gets there), wait for inevitable reply telling you it's gone to the wrong department, receive reply saying they need some kind of oblique code you don't have, find code, supply code via another letter, wait awhile, possibly get just over £70 back. It's frankly less stressful not to bother. That said, sometimes it works like a dream and you get the dosh so… if you're that way inclined… fill your boots.

Im pretty sure coa ship DHL and they are very good at recognising codes on customs forms as their staff are actually trained and have more than 2 braincells. also parcelforce make you claim it back after, where as dhl sort it before you pay if any queries. |
