Maya Hayuk 🇺🇸 Street Art • New Release • Art For Sale , by milo99 on Apr 16, 2017 21:48:59 GMT 1, I'm so happy for you. Myself I'm still concerned by this print.. it really looks like been made by an rabbit boiler, what's the artist like *off to google If it helps, just think of the context of the Bowie/Prince image. It was created for (I believe) an annual jokey art thing that wasn't meant to be taken that seriously. And Maya stepped out of her comfort zone and created a throwaway piece that wasn't meant to indicate that her popular art style was heading in a new direction*
It's a bit like if Damien Hirst entered a clay vase at the local art show. Don't judge his entire art existence on that one piece. Or judge his arty self on the resale value of his prints on eBay.
You're thinking about Hirst entering a vase, aren't you.
Happy Easter!

Thanks Plip, didn't realise it was a joke. All makes sense now.

Maya Hayuk 🇺🇸 Street Art • New Release • Art For Sale , by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Apr 17, 2017 1:19:05 GMT 1, It just goes to show you how much initial "interest" is by the flippers in pushing prices to the next level. Once it cant go any furhter, interest just dies. Thats not to imply these artists dont still have fans, but the amount of threads on this forum are a fraction of what they were when they were "hot", see the "hot 2014-15 artists" hayuk, chevrier, zach, etc. once there was no more prospect of high flipping prices people moved onto the next thing. oh and that bowie/prince print was laughable
Cue the Hayuk sell off threads on here!

Maya seemed to have a strong following of real fans, but that price point just made it feel a bit like a Retna type cash grab

Maya Hayuk 🇺🇸 Street Art • New Release • Art For Sale , by thesewalls on Apr 17, 2017 7:00:47 GMT 1, Nothing happened to her. If you don't love her anymore that's your loss. She's still doing her thing.
The market is a fickle place. Don't let numbers/exposure/statistics define artists.
All artists aren't businesses or brands. Perhaps your mind has been polluted by these commercial "artists". By auction results and petty judgements.
Yes, you're missing something. You're missing a lot Try letting the art speak for itself. That might be a good place to start. X O X O

Maya Hayuk 🇺🇸 Street Art • New Release • Art For Sale , by mla on Apr 17, 2017 9:40:59 GMT 1, Was there ever really anything there?
A few fairly priced prints created an arbitrage opportunity for a handful of speculators, and as per the norm, these folks hyped the work to the stratosphere, in a classic pump and dump scheme. Once her time as flavour of the month had passed, and any thought of making a fast buck was killed by the work being priced to market, that was it for her on this forum.

Maya Hayuk 🇺🇸 Street Art • New Release • Art For Sale , by jeeves on Apr 17, 2017 12:03:58 GMT 1, I have mixed emotions about Maya. I love Very X, and own it. I also love Multiverses 1, and would love to own one. However..... I find her work either side of these releases quite poor. I also find (and this is what concerns me) that I prefer her prints over the originals I've seen. Quite often elements of her originals lack correct balance, both in the weighting of the elements, and colour (some even clash). My thoughts here are that given the chance to rework areas in the printing process she can correct the errors I see in her originals (I appreciate there are no 'errors' in an artists' work if that's how they indeed them to be, it's just my personal opinion, and choice of words). What I'm getting at, and rather controversially, is that.... in my opinion she has a bad eye, artistically. Could this then mean that she had a bit of a one-hit-wonder with the 'X' style she is known for? It's a real shame as I really do love the prints mentioned above, but I've only ever seen one original that really excited me. The others all had elements that ruined the piece for me. Apologies for rambling on, but it's been something I've been dwelling on for a while now. I would love to see her work develop and grow, but I have to ask myself.... does she have it in her? My gut feeling is no, which is a shame. Literally couldn't agree more with you more - and it is refreshing for someone that owns some of her work being so honest. So often you see 'opinion' which just seems like thinly veiled price supportive commentary by people that have invested in said artist. Not that for me 'investment' is the important thing, it is enjoying what is on my walls every day, but sadly it is impossible to ignore the whole side circus around hype and values. Will be sad if she never creates anything else great besides those couple of 'x' prints, but give the massive gulf in quality between these and anything else she has ever done then I would tend to agree with your gut feeling. But v much hope to be proved wrong!

Hello, I wasn't the one who popped this question.😬
You have your own opinion and I respect that. But to tell others they are missing out a lot by not being a fan of hayuk is a little overboard in my opinion. I am a big fan of parra, but I understand some people find his works hideous as s@&t as well. As you said, let the works speak for itself, and if it is any good, it will find its audience. A BIG AUDIENCE willing to pay for her worksno matter how much it cost. There are also millions of artists around the world to follow, so who's missing what?
