BUT then I stumbled upon a treasure trove of out of print graffiti books at a used book store in downtown Berkeley and found TONS of her old school work and I have to say I am convert. Her old school work is quite impressive and the abstract style she currently uses is just another evolution of her work.

Agreed. Strong street artist but also people tend to judge her work based on design aesthetic due to the geometry in a lot of it. But she should be seen more as a colourist, and an expressionist.. The way her street pieces respond to the environment around and music she's listening too. I like the way she betrays the design side of things with wonky lines whereas she gets trolled for it on here. The imperfections are intentional.
She's a true artist, defo not playing a market.

I immediately fell in love with her style and began tracking her work. Unfortunately, I only became an art collector in the past year or so, so I missed out on her best (IMO) prints when they first released. I reached out to her studio manager last fall and I had the privilege of taking a private tour of her gallery a few months ago with my girlfriend. The space is very cool and matches her style perfectly and she has plenty of originals for sale.
One thing that struck me while I was at her studio: I asked the studio manger if she had any prints for sale, since most of her originals are out of my price range at the moment. She replied saying, "We have two True Flag prints for sale; one original and one hand-embellished, but these may be Maya's last big print release because she doesn't like the fact that people are scooping up her work just to sell it on eBay." I told her I've been searching for an affordable print and the prices on eBay are absurd. I walked away with nothing since the True Flags were $1500 and $2500, respectively, but my respect for Maya as an artist grew and it was truly memorable experience.

Also got to speak to Maya and her studio manager for a bit. Very cool experience and I’m super pumped to have finally picked up a print for a reasonable price (and direct from Maya nonetheless)! Will post photos tomorrow.

This was one of the 2 pieces of hers that were hung at the show
These are numbers 1/100 and 2/100 of the new screenprint, "The Likes of Us," which were float framed and hung in the gallery (Her studio manager told me they are probably holding onto these and won't sell them)
This is an awful photo of the print that I was able to pick up - can't wait to get it framed. Each print was screened by Haven Press, which is right downstairs from Maya's studio and each print has been hand sprayed with embellishments, making them all unique
