Loads for sale - why?, by gbh on Jan 31, 2008 11:32:35 GMT 1, I think the fact that there have been a s**tload of very average prints released in the past 3-6 months also has contributed to the glut at the moment. Not that I disagree with you but would be interested in your opinion of which prints you are referring to?
at the risk of a severe battering (thank god the respect system has gone):
Stop and search - flame away lemmings Numerous shit and boring pieces from Cauty Micallef flood of the market (I do like the GIWTTB image) Shepard fairey release of a print every 30 seconds, mostly shitty A questionable Blek or two The just released Ian Francis bits aren't flying off the shelf - I do like them though, not enough to buy This kills me to say it but - D*Face green lady - WTF ?
That should be enough to rub people up the wrong way (not meant to, these are just my honest thoughts).

Loads for sale - why?, by pezlow on Jan 31, 2008 11:43:23 GMT 1, I would also add to that list the Dface Pop Tarts - probably the ugliest prints ever released; then the insect pinnochio print (who would put that on their wall?). Most of the Bast stuff as well doesn't do anything for me although the mickey was alright.

Bang on GBH, alot of the emperors new clothes at the moment, big for a week and then slated by all and sundry when they cant make an instant proffit... Lister, Choe ( backlash is starting....), Francis will be next to get hauled over. I was a big early d-face fan, the BRP stuff has pretty much sucked IMO, with death and glory / flagraisers being a standout piece. Love swoons stuff but she has also saturated her own market... Think its a shame that Beejoir is getting some stick though, end of the day as for any prints if you dont like em, dont buy em, dont start ragging the artist when he hasn't catered to your specific tastes.

Loads for sale - why?, by fatherxmas on Jan 31, 2008 12:08:49 GMT 1, I agree prices should be coming down, but agents are still "topping " the price just to get stock on. I have soo much stock at the moment overpriced that I can't shift it and have stopped taking on instructions just for the sake of it. Vendors expectation levels are still very high, it's as if they can't see what's happening around them or read the press and still think that they have the best house on the street / area. I work in an "affordable" area of London where people can still buy a 3 bed house for £250 ish. It's not all doom and gloom. Interest rates will drop and things'll start moving again. It's not the best start to the year, but everyone you talk to in every industry at the moment is finding it hard
Hopefully the programme on ITV next week on wednesday night should open their eyes a bit. Called..........Recession Recession Recession. I cant beleive buyers still had expectations, dont they read or watch the tv... Even with interst drops, this will not start a buying frenzy with the first buyer, like ive said in my previous posts, first time buyers with bog standard deposit of 10% will need to do a little better unless there a young working professinal i.e. lawyer/doctor etc etc Hards times coming, and just wait for the auctions to be flled up, allsops tend to have 1day auctins every month, the book is so full next month its over 2 days ;D Bargains to be had, and hopefully i'll be getting 1 and if possible 2 hip hip horaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to stupid borrowing by NR

Loads for sale - why?, by Run Pig Run on Jan 31, 2008 12:49:56 GMT 1, a lot of people keep prints in folders for 6-12 months and sell them when they need money...sort of like a savings account but a bit more exciting and more of a gamble.

strange...because I'm cheap and tacky too...
I'm honestly surprised by the general lack of public flogging I'm receiving
as per what a few posts above have suggested, I have been doing a lot less impulse buying of late due to me thinking some recent releases suck.
A good side effect has been that I have now been able to save a bit to buy some proper decent older quality ($$) pieces.

Hallelujah for the death of respect, your opinion is valid, you state what you don't like and these days you can!!!
The beauty of this bursting bubble is that in 6 months time many of the fly by night artists will be gone, prices will depreciate and those that genuinely love the work can get a piece again and rave about how much they love the image, knowing full well they have not got a cash cow investment anymore.
Pezlow, suprised you don't like who to believe, I normally skate closely to the things you like, but I loved this.

Well, maybe it looks better in the flesh but on the screen I was really not feeling it. Still loving your Gary Hume though - got any bigger pics of it all framed up?

Loads for sale - why?, by daz205 on Jan 31, 2008 16:29:26 GMT 1, i`m 27 and i care about the global market i own my house and fingers crossed i work in a industry that will not be effected by a recession should it happen, however i`m not buying as many new pieces of art because some of the older pieces are now in my price range and more appealing to me. if there is a downturn in the market it will effect everyone in someway or another i`d like to be in the situation if it happens i have some resonable savings so i can step up the property ladder or invest in a second business, saving at the moment is more important to me than buying art for those reasons, if i`m wrong then i`ll buy some art from my savings

Loads for sale - why?, by crazyarsemother on Jan 31, 2008 22:59:22 GMT 1, going back to GBH's coment. I think most of B the Rat's work is dull and unaesthetically appealling. I was really put off by the use of Works canvasses at the Eleven show. Pet hate of mine. Especially the canvasses with the nails in the side.
