Are You Addicted To Art ?, by Wearology on Nov 29, 2014 3:21:57 GMT 1, Wifey & the kids feel that I may have a wee bit of an art addiction. They actually printed out pictures of my spare room to make a point. Am I alone with this problem or do any of my other forumites suffer from the same issue ?

Are You Addicted To Art ?, by Deleted on Nov 29, 2014 3:23:45 GMT 1, I don't know if I'm addicted to art, or the thrill of the hunt.
I love art, but if I couldn't find any thing I wanted to buy, I'd probably try to find some rare vinyl, or some antique printing tools, or something for my wife or....

Are You Addicted To Art ?, by Wearology on Nov 29, 2014 3:59:55 GMT 1, The painting I blurred out is an original painting given to me by a forum member who received it as a gift from the artist directly many years ago. That artist went on to be very famous and protective of his originals he gave away as gifts when he was just starting out. For that reason I can not display it in public.

Are You Addicted To Art ?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Nov 29, 2014 6:03:57 GMT 1, Wearology you have a problem!!! but us guys need some sort of a vice!! For me it started as you get older and start slowing down on things, and bought one or two prints for my apartment as always been interested in art. Now married with little one, collecting is still having something to hold onto, something naughty ie. making a purchase without the wife knowing (try it Its exciting, it's a whole new buzz lol!!)Years ago my money would have gone on partying hard, travelling and enjoying life. Now it goes on the little one , renovations, and financially planning the years ahead. Just bought a new house and other things, so no art for a while.. Lots of pieces on my list and now I have some more white walls to hang them but no $$ have to be patient or hopefully there's a lotto win incoming..

Are You Addicted To Art ?, by thesewalls on Nov 29, 2014 6:10:51 GMT 1, Are they talking about a buying addiction? Like too much stuff? Or is it more of a serious nature, where art plays the roll of a seductive mistress, taking all your time and money?
I am absolutely addicted to art. Looking for it, at it, in it. Criticizing and critiquing, if only in my head. Writing, painting, inside and out. Hoping, wishing...lusting...it boils my blood and pounds my heart.
I am also addicted to the consumption of goods. I love stuff. Art is the ultimate stuff. Functional art as well. It brings us unlimited goodness. I am a collector. I have a good eye (haha imo) and it suits me to use it. It's a fun game to play. It can be trying and frustrating. Making quick decisions about expensive things with unlimited depth. Immersing yourself in the world. Following a feeling. Asking questions. Embracing emotions. Ignoring others. Getting your grail. Not breaking the bank. Not thinking 'how the f@ck do I still not own a ______'?! Or 'how the f@ck did I just spend that much on piece'? Then you get the piece. My God. Ahhh! Sigh. Yesss. Uhhhhhhh!
It's hard to find a real gem. Once you do, it's hard to forget that feeling. Probably because it's staring you in the face everyday.

Are You Addicted To Art ?, by Deleted on Nov 29, 2014 17:04:57 GMT 1, Definitely the chase for me be it art vinyl trainers. Love the thrill of tracking down something that I've been looking for for years. Once obtained said product I can't replace that thrill so I end up looking for more! Improved dramatically though in recent years to the point I'm passing on a number of opportunities to buy.
So In short not addicted to art but was addicted to the buying

Are You Addicted To Art ?, by Howard Johnson on Nov 30, 2014 20:31:03 GMT 1, Great thread idea. I am defiantly addicted to art collecting, and I'm sure a lot of people in this game are addicted. Its such a hard thing to stop, once you tell yourself that your comfortable with your collection something new pops up that you have to have, or a grail comes up on Ebay that you talk yourself into purchasing because you dont know when you'll have another chance at it.
At least its a somewhat productive hobby in the sense that if your a smart collector anything you purchase will hopefully go up in value making it as much as an investment strategy as a hobby. Something I have never understood is buying so much more than your walls can possibly hold. Granted I am a student, and have limited financial resources at my disposal, but can you really ever enjoy all that art piled up in a room like that? What is the thought process behind acquiring that amount of work; is it an investment or do you plan on displaying it all at some point? I'm not trying to troll, I'm just interested in the psychology behind acquiring such an impressive collection.
