I'm sure the other auction prices had a little influence from people that had vested interest in the result and by that I mean "wealthy traders" not artists or supposed PR/Managent.
Lots of pieces go to auction and get record prices and low prices....so just as if you were buying something on this forum and the seller wants ยฃ8k and you think it worth ยฃ5k....meet in the middle and you have the actual price.

When pricing their artworks for Private Sale, using an Auction result as a precedent, I think something is only worth what the seller receives from said auction.
If not, then surely they should take it to an auction house with global reach and huge client base, and pay the fees.

I think it also to keep in mind that the price paid at auction meant that the "winner" (buyer) simply paid more than anyone else in the world (the world of buying art that is) felt a piece was worth at that moment in time.

True? I'm not so sure about that. In my experience, the kind of people that buy at auction would almost never purchase a piece off ebay.
