Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by Gunny on Mar 5, 2019 16:17:35 GMT 1, It is interesting to hear the comments etc on this. I am guessing those who have actually seen it in the hotel will be the high guesser's and the people who havn't the low guesser's. For those saying most would prefer a canvas, I would agree, however, that would apply to people who would want to display a Banksy work in their house. I wouldn't really want to display it in my house, however a lot of well-off people would love to display it in their big barns, loft spaces hanging from the rafters, perhaps in an arty games room etc. Then there are all the people with money investing in art, they will see this as a good buy anywhere under 200k. There are not many Banksy originals on the market and the Banksy original market has a long way to go..... it has only just recently started to get going........
On a side not, i spotted this on instagram......... TOP RIGHT

The estimate is 70 to 100. What would the reserve be, 50/60.
Cost 40 + 8 vat.
If it only sold for the reserve the seller would be sick.

70k less fees=61, cost 48 made 13k, not bad for doing fuck all but lobbing out the money for a year. Is it about a 25% return?
pays for lots of coke and hookers. Thanks Mr Banksy sir

Anyway i can't see it going under 100

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by juveniled on Mar 5, 2019 18:06:41 GMT 1, My guess is 2-300k for sure. This is a unique buy never seen before with a Banksy. Both a large iconic sculpture WITH an artist box featuring 4x hand painted stencils!!?? How does anyone think this would go under 100k? That is just nonsense.
As an example various cardboard based single stencils have gone for way over 100k in the past and someone even paid 280k for this TINY pretty boring rat canvas last year....
www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2018/contemporary-art-day-auction-l18025/lot.106.html?locale=en
This is a no brainer for a wealthy collector as in 5-10 years these will no doubt be 4-500k+
I can also easily in years to come see this getting displayed at MOMA or The Broad etc. It perfectly represents the whole Walled Off Hotel concept which is also going to be seen as an art piece in itself in any future artist retrospective.
I'd for sure buy this for a high number if I was a minted art investor. It's very low risk.

You'd be better to wait for the next sellers which will no doubt happen this year as a guess? I just think talk of this not being a significant sale is just silliness, there's also not really been a decent OG / or low edition piece up for a major house auction since the shredding. Seems like owners are holding back now, with good reason. Just the fact this is first to auction says it will fly, I reckon. It's a great piece - I'd imagine they will have quite a few people fighting over this one.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by Deleted on Mar 6, 2019 9:52:24 GMT 1, Whats wrong with One Direction or Game of Thrones posters ? Most kids would want to climb the rope and wouldnt give a flyyng fck about the statement piece at the end of the rope. No no I meant baby.ย The rope would be tied to the base of the crib. The whole room would be art. aye ok.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by silvermyn on Mar 6, 2019 10:16:54 GMT 1, My guess is 2-300k for sure. This is a unique buy never seen before with a Banksy. Both a large iconic sculpture WITH an artist box featuring 4x hand painted stencils!!?? How does anyone think this would go under 100k? That is just nonsense. As an example various cardboard based single stencils have gone for way over 100k in the past and someone even paid 280k for this TINY pretty boring rat canvas last year.... www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2018/contemporary-art-day-auction-l18025/lot.106.html?locale=enThis is a no brainer for a wealthy collector as in 5-10 years these will no doubt be 4-500k+ I can also easily in years to come see this getting displayed at MOMA or The Broad etc. It perfectly represents the whole Walled Off Hotel concept which is also going to be seen as an art piece in itself in any future artist retrospective. I'd for sure buy this for a high number if I was a minted art investor. It's very low risk. Apprecaite the enthusiasm for this piece but your comparing originals on card that can be hung on the wall against a carboard box with stencils on the sides. Apples and oranges perhaps?
The religious nature of the work will also go against it as far as a lot of people are concerned. You try convincing your other half that a the Son of God on a massive grappling hook is what's going on the lounge wall... The subject matter of QV and CWSB isn't to most people's taste for interior decorating purposes and does hold the values back.
I suspect there will be at least two people who want this so it should do well. However, I am not expecting this to reach the heady hights that some people on here are predicting.
It will be very interesting to see what level it reaches in any event.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by Hubble Bubble on Mar 6, 2019 10:51:26 GMT 1, I'd be astonished if it gets anywhere near 300k. I'd have thought 120k hammer or so, max. Who knows though. Crazy world.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by Winter on Mar 6, 2019 15:06:56 GMT 1, It is unbelievable the prices that some people are predicting - prepare to be shocked as this is going to do extremely well. The whole art world is watching Banksy right now and a piece like this is going to be very much wanted! There are serious art collectors out there with bucket loads of money! Feck, i wish i owned this...... I'm not convinced the whole art world are watching Banksy. You go to the big shows - Frieze, Art Basel etc and there is no Banksy at all. I still think they're unsure about him and I've heard lots of people in the 'art world' found the shredding of the GWB painting tacky.
That said I think there is a market for these pieces. This piece is impossible to call. No idea at all.

Respect your points however, serious art collectors - especially when it comes to art investments - I do not believe care if the stencils are on a box or canvas as regularly items bought at these kinds of numbers remain in storage for investment purposes. The subject matter I believe helps this piece as it's a conceptual play which is strong. I'm also certain conversations with your other half and interior decoration do not come into the picture here when a serious collector is dropping over 100k on art. Plenty of Koons, Haring etc sculptures are very weird for the home but sell for crazy money.
I've decided i'm going to bid as a couple of friends have pooled in with me but I'm not hopeful as our ceiling is not that high. I know other serious collectors who plan to goto this auction so it could turn into a shark tank. Time will tell in just a few hours!
