Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Poster Bob on Jul 4, 2018 22:06:06 GMT 1, No, that Death print should have achieved double and the others at least 50% more.
And what happened to those Harland Miller prices? You can rely on me and love conquers nothing went at Β£6875 and Β£4000 while incurable romantic went for over Β£13k! Seem to be fairly average prices for Harland Miller. Check auction results on Philips website... Average around Β£12-15k for the larger prints... Less for the small ones.

I had forgotten about this auction unfortunately. Would have picked it up for sure. Hand finished unique print. I'd be super pissed if I were the seller for sure.

Having never bought or sold on an auction (but might be doing so in the future if I sell one of my Banksy prints), wouldnt you be able to set a minimum price you want to sell for? I really can't imagine Bonhams just going "oh we'll put the minimum price at 10k and see what happens" and selling being like "oh well sure no problem".
If you own something that valuable, you should be like..aware of it's value right?

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by shy on Jul 5, 2018 2:38:19 GMT 1, You are allowed to place reserves on your art. (Same thing with standardbred or thoroughbred horses at auction)
The auction house will bid up your art and hope to catch some buyers who will ring in a price over the reserve.
If there are no takers then the lot is passed.
In some auction houses you will be charges a commission even if the lots is passed (not sold)

This is why I keep saying, never auction during the summer. Spring and fall are always best. Also, consigning to Gallery is good too. They usually take 10% where as some auctions will take up to 20% from you.

Yeah, but psychologically when it comes to buying, more auctions get passed if the reserve is too high. Lowering it entices bidding.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Deleted on Jul 5, 2018 16:05:16 GMT 1, Can you explain the seasonality of auctions to me, please? I'm considering selling my Banksy 'Chocolate Donuts' (I know it's not everyone's favourite, but I like it) and have been offered what sound like good terms from a big auction house for a sale in September. Recent sale prices make me wonder if now is a bad time and I should hold on to it, but a few people seem to be saying autumn is better.
It's my first time selling any art of major value (I bought the print from Pictures on Walls on release) so it's a bit of a new world to me*.
*This doesn't mean PM me with low-ball offers, thanks all the same.

end of sept is ok, we are all back home from hols, have money as christmas is still a few months off, and its starting to get colder so we are moving back indoors and nesting
dont put it into Bonhams
Also you say you have had good terms from the auction house, lets says it's 10%? We know that the print sells here for say Β£25-Β£30k? and the buyers premium at auction will be around 30% so you'll be lucky if anyone bids over Β£22k, now take off your 10% plus vat plus whatever else and your at Β£20k. is that how much you want? or are you hoping it will sell at acution for Β£30k plus buyers premium @30% = Β£39k?
So are you sure you dont want PMs with offers?

If you own something that valuable, you should be like..aware of it's value right? I agree and it's amazing how many items sold at auction houses only make the minimum low reserve.
If in doubt attend the auction to confirm your lot was actually auctioned in public not flogged off in private before the auction house opened it's doors.
It can also happen that dealers get together and decide not to bid on some items in order to get the item at a low price, as in a "ring"

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by moron on Jul 5, 2018 21:04:22 GMT 1, Auction seasonality, everyone buggers off on holiday in summer and cant be bothered by expensive art.
Maybe Harland Miller has churned out too many same looking very expensive prints sold to rich people thru galleries in a short space of time and the secondary market isn't there yet.
This sale did have a lot of great prints though and very affordable by blue chip artists. I would have been looking at some of those including deceased artists who are not making any more prints, before spending money on some text on rothko

All results are on Bonhams website.
New Dog Save the Queen (Gold) was Β£2.5k - unique proof - I believe they are selling the plain white of these at Β£1.25k and TP's a little more.
Lie Lie Land Black on Gold at Β£1.25k inc premium- not bad as they retailed at Β£650..albeit this was an EP
Rest either did'nt sell or nothing to write home about
