Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by Wearology on Sept 9, 2017 14:18:52 GMT 1, Congratulation to Daniel Arsham for selling out Relic 8. It was a nice size edition of 500 and based on the large size of the sculpture and the fact it sold out so quickly - it seems the asking price was fair as well. I look forward to Relic 9 - which will be his next and final piece in the series.

Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by mose on Sept 9, 2017 14:39:26 GMT 1, I might not go that far, but I would say it is not original.
For instance:
Christian Marclay, Boneyard, 1990 750 hydrostone cast receivers
This work is currently on display at Paula Cooper Gallery in NYC. And the whole concept is about the phone serving as a relic, done 27 years ago.

Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by touchdowntodd on Sept 9, 2017 21:18:02 GMT 1, Dislike the flip
I do like Arsham, and gladly bought this. Huge piece, and far better value than previous. I now own 5,6,7, and 8.. wish I had gotten in earlier to have them all
Imho in person they're great, amazingly packaged, and he makes enough for a lot of people to enjoy.
Unsure why people think there's no "value" here. Between himself and snarkitechture, his hand is in some very big things and only growing. The first few relics sell much higher than retail, and it's rare to ever find one at retail unless new release. In 5 years will these be 5k each? No ... but they'll be collectible imo. Especially when 1 offs sell at 10-20k rather quickly, and the "relic" series is soon to be over
Since people dislike, and think there's no value. . . . Find me a 1, 2, 3 , and 4 at retail, I'll take them right now

Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by kendo on Sept 9, 2017 23:10:35 GMT 1, The negativity from members is surprising but not unexpected as unfortunately this seems to become the norm recently! Don't like the art, don't like artist - fair enough, we all have different tastes.
To compare an artist to eBay listings is laughable - there are genuine members who buy what they like regardless!
A little self restraint & research goes a long way before forming opinions but each to their own!

Comments like this are absolute rubbish imho.
Do you know anything about the guy? why he makes the pieces he does?
I think Arsham has an incredible story. His home destroyed as a kid during hurricane Andrew in FL. Seeing that destruction led him to view the world in a different way, seeing things as they once will be, not as they are now. Making the audience remember that even material possessions aren't as permanent as we regard them to be.
In addition to all of that he's colorblind, so his work tends to stay in grey scale. (with the help of newly designed glasses) he was able to see color recently and while he loves it, he finds it almost distracting, so doesn't wear the glasses often, nor make many works of color.

No ca$h for this as paying off other purchases, release inconvenient Japan time, but would like to have this FR 08 some day.

It kind of looks awkward in a museum plexibox from photos I've seen of the relics and what's an archeological find without a bit of dust?

It arrived in one piece but unfortunately the box less so - not that surprising as it's quite heavy! It's a really cool and substantial piece, you'll not be disappointed if you did decide to go for one!

Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by bbperez1 on Sept 28, 2017 5:19:20 GMT 1, Hello Forum,
I know I will more than likely catch some heat from this post but I am willing to take the criticism if it means helping a fellow collector out.
I recently acquired a third Daniel Arsham Future Relic 08.. I sold one to a forum member upon release and now I am in possession of another. I have seen these currently trending upwards on eBay and I would like to offer it a forum member at cost plus shipping. The last one I sold was sent via USPS and it arrived safely in its original packaging. Although, the weight of the relic itself made it expensive to ship, roughly it was $50.
Now, if anyone is interested the last one I sold was for around $1050 or so.. The cheapest one on eBay is currently $1350 obo. Please let me know if anyone is interested. I can send pictures to any potential buyers or skeptics of the relic. Mine is open and displayed the other is still sealed awaiting a new home..
Thank you.
-B
