Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by sgolby on Aug 22, 2019 22:22:06 GMT 1, All sarcasm aside, according to HYPEBEAST Daniel Arsham has decided to handle his next MerchArt release through Paddle8. I have no idea how this is going to be handled by them, but it will apparently be released on the 28th of August. I am not sure why he is doing this on Paddle8, however it could be a way to circumvent BOTs from grabbing all of them in 0.5 seconds. I am not a huge fan of Arsham but if that is indeed the case then I will give him props for his decision.
HYPEBEAST BLOG POST BELOW:
Daniel Arsham is teaming up with Paddle8 to release a new sculptural work entitled βFictional Nonfiction: Archaeology, 2019.β The collectible cast measures 8 x 5 x 1 1/2 inches and will arrive in an edition of 500.
The special edition was specially created for the American Friends of Museums in Israel. The work portrays an eroding printed book penned by famed English broadcaster and natural historian, David Attenborough. Altogether, the piece evokes the artistβs ubiquitous interplay of time.
Each edition comes with art handling gloves and is encased in Arsham Studio packaging with numbered authentication labels. The relic will be up for auction on Paddle8 this August 27. This isnβt Arshamβs first time casting publications with the artist uploading a number of previous examples on his Instagram portraying decayed variants of Vogue, The New Yorker, and more (depicted below).

My persistence paid off after several attempts to checkout.
I am really looking forward to this release as someone that works in the publishing industry.

Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by rogerwu99 on Aug 27, 2019 18:05:56 GMT 1, I'm not sure what happened, but my card got declined (although the bank said it didn't) and then it said that the address didn't match, and pretty much every error message they had until 15 minutes later it was sold out. I like these "relic" pieces ... not so much a fan of the "sand" pieces ...

Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by sgolby on Aug 27, 2019 18:36:12 GMT 1, To be honest, I was a big fan of what Arsham was doing in the beginning. I am an 80's child and witnessed the speed with which technologies became obsolete grow exponentially. I always loved as an early teenager going upstate and spending time in junk stores where I would find old electronics that were cool to look at, especially when stacked and piled on top of one another in no particular manner. Arsham's idea to document these "relics" in a fossilized manner, to me really resonated and I wanted to display them in my home and joke about them with my kids one day.
Then after the Future Relics he started making what in effect was "Merch." Logo'd garbage for the hype generation. It made no sense to me, and I lost respect. It felt like the guy was co-opted by his f*ckboi partner in crime who makes money selling overpriced cereal, and bad re-releases of nostalgic "gear," which is available for a fraction of the price at the salvation army. Anyway, back to my original line of thought. This is precisely the type of edition I personally want to see more of from Daniel Arsham, not some bullsh*t candles, flags, or care bears with colored powder on them. I hope that this release's subject, and the apparent attempt at reducing botfukkery represent a new chapter for an artist who I believe is both culturally relevant, and highly talented, as well as skilled at popularizing art as a means for social good. Only time will tell...

Daniel Arsham πΊπΈ New York β’ Eroded Future Relic, by Wrinkled Brain on Aug 27, 2019 20:41:07 GMT 1, I, too, hope for the end of the hype-driven sculpts and more of what he began with. I've passed on all of his releases except for the relics and blue bear. This sculpt really resonated with me.

Quite a few should have an extra one as they were allowing you to purchase 2 at a time.
