They were both on the same boat shooting the same ice field. Of course their pictures will be nearly identical. Plagiarism would be if one woman saw the picture of the other, and went about getting the same shot after the fact.
Plagiarism in art definitely exists, and at the highest levels (Hirsh, Koons, etc.), but what they are describing here is not plagiarism to me. They were both on the same boat shooting the same ice field. Of course their pictures will be nearly identical.
