Mr Brainwash does valentines - again..., by Deleted on Feb 7, 2015 18:00:30 GMT 1, sometimes it takes an outsider to come in and work out how best to work a crowd. MBW is appalling bujt I have to admire his industry, if not the art or the ideas behind them

Mr Brainwash does valentines - again..., by bonesy on Feb 7, 2015 19:45:42 GMT 1, Despite the British haters, Brainwash is still in favor in the States. Lot of folks got a lot invested in the guy and his work
Don't think its the British haters, think it's anybody that has any sort of a refined eye. Feel like It was a joke when he came out and we're still waiting on the punchline, or something.......

Mr Brainwash does valentines - again..., by Black Apple Art on Feb 7, 2015 20:53:17 GMT 1, Despite the British haters, Brainwash is still in favor in the States. Lot of folks got a lot invested in the guy and his work Being in "The States" I had to jump in here. The small microcosm of BW "investors" are very much in the minority in general and are on the outside of quite a large inside joke. If someone does like "his" images that's great but you will not find any informed or knowledgable collector "investing" in his work, in or out of the states. I do agree that a larger population here in the states had the "Exit" movie message go completely over their heads and came away from it being duped by the very satire that made the movie great. I don't think that happened much in the UK.

Historically art is full of recycled images and ideas. And the art world thrives on microcosms. It doesn't need the acceptance of a wider audience to make it successful.
I didn't see it as a satirical movie. Just a documentary about someone with drive and balls and very little self awareness who created a demand for something because he believed he could.
No-one had to buy into that, but they did and that was two years before the movie even existed.

Main point was that "your view" is not right or wrong but is (a) in the minority and (b) more prevalent in the US than in the UK...but hey they made Hirst the richest living artist in the world so go figure.
Not to stray much and I know I've plugged it before but if anyone has not seen "The Great Contemporary Art Bubble" I highly recommend it no matter what your view or likes may be. I do have the link to the complete DL. If anyone wants it PM me.

Mr Brainwash does valentines - again..., by laguy34 on Feb 11, 2015 22:50:46 GMT 1, I just can't believe anyone takes any aspect of Exit as true or factual. There are clearly many people that invest in Brainwashes work, and that base seems to be growing. If anything, the true "brainwash" is the people that bow down to Banksy at every turn, taking what he (or she or they) say as truth. I mean it is only a $300 print after all, not exactly a huge some of money.
Gotta love Black Apple talking about a contemporary art bubble when you had Dolks and Dots that were less that 5 months old for over two times the original price at Contraband this past year.

Well as a rule I usually sell in demand sold out prints at original cost (like most do) and happy take the loss on the $350 framing as well.
Welcome to the forum lol.

Unless you're in buying mode right now of course

Unless you're in buying mode right now of course My opinions here and elsewhere are always just that and can often be contrary to business but so be it. That aside, I think my sharing an extremely informative and eye opening documentary is great for all and won't "downhype" anything. Information is just that and it's affects fall where they may IMO. I'm sure Sotheby's and the Hirst camp would love to see this film banished from the planet but I think it's well done, informative and exposes a side to the art world that is rarely if ever seen.
