Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by snoozy on Oct 15, 2015 18:37:06 GMT 1, Strange that, I was charged $50 on the one I just purchased...and it was a canvas, not concrete! Care to explain? Yes because your canvas is bigger then the small butterfly concrete piece. Doesn't go by weight and the concrete doesn't weigh as much as it sounds. Ah, when you say 'flat' you mean flat, literally, not as in UK where it means 'same for everything'.

He mentioned how concrete is expensive to ship.
Its not. We are only charging $15 for that due to its height. The canvas is the biggest piece and that is more expensive to ship.

Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by Hairbland on Oct 16, 2015 13:37:13 GMT 1, I was about to chip-in about personal opinions and becoming too emotive but FR has such a way with words If bringing up the trope of everyone having an asshole is a way with words then let me nurse my coffee while sitting atop my dinosaur and wait for more!
A "forum" is a place where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. Considering my comment brought an equal number of 'likes' versus comments against I'd say we are "foruming" for lack of a better phrase.
This particular release / artist ties into the wonderful discussion underway in the "Quality of Recent Releases" thread. Watching the Youtube video I see a former SVA student more enamored of MBW's marketing chops than having any type of artist statement. And why wouldn't such a thing happen - a bit more talent, a better name, losing the princess wings - one could easily be successful. If it doesn't work the first time, pretend you didn't do it and do it again with better timing (Eyesaw).
On a different note I find the communication I'm receiving from Mr Bongo regarding his Kickstarter updates hysterical, and I thought the Brett Amory show that opened last night at JLG lame and clichรฉd.

Not sure if you want me to applaud your previous comment but I personally felt it was very insulting and unnecessary. You seem to let your own personal emotion get the better of you - it is clear you don't like Tabby's work but others do.
A forum is also a place where more than one person can have an opinion without fear of being lambasted and insulted

That to me seems more like a personal emotion.
Art is subjective. Open for discussion. If it wasn't we wouldn't have a Jerry Saltz making a living, with half the people thinking he's spot on and the other half thinking he's an idiot.
However, personally I've changed my likes many times over the years. Hated mom's boiled brussel sprouts as a kid, dig 'em grilled in olive oil with some sea salt and bacon now.
UTB must have an artist statement from Tabby, I can't find it on the site...that would help.

I dont see what is wrong with that, people interpret most things in their own way. Ive seen loads of pieces over analysed here. Usually the artist must be pissing themselves laughing at some of the interpretations.

What I see as being "wrong with it" is that he implies there is deeper meaning to his stencils when there very clearly isn't. Unless I'm missing something. Maybe someone can explain the deeper meaning behind "death" reading a book about being loved, or Julie Andrews dancing through ernest zacharevic-style hills holding uzis. In my opinion, his work are "clever," and nothing more. And clever, again in my opinion, is about the lowest bar you can set for art.

I wasn't personally insulted I just felt your terms were a bit too harsh but I have no interest In the artist so the original intention was just to suggest a less aggressive expression - an artist is also a person and whilst criticism can sting, you gave him a good hiding
I've seen far worse from more experienced artists and i do actually like a couple of images I've seen. I can't argue against some of the better worded critiques and wouldn't dream of telling you you're not entitled to an opinion, I would just like to have read something without imagining you giving it some 'dog face' - (meant in good humour)
As an aside, I did look at the artist a couple of months back as I expected to find he was a 'bedroom' street artist so it was to his credit that he is getting out on the street with these images, and for some, placement makes a big difference

Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by markent on Oct 16, 2015 20:20:12 GMT 1, Not sure I understand how anyone can call 'all' work by an artist crap, that is either very naive or just ignorant. It's as if you have a grudge and then to insult people who have bought his work isn't really giving a personal view on a piece.

But surely an artist that has 'no' talent isn't an artist, if you make money from art then odiously they do have some talent. I've seen artists who's work I don't particularly like but I've not hated every single piece they have do, that's just blinkered.

I've seen artists who's work I don't particularly like but I've not hated every single piece they have do, that's just blinkered. There's a sucker born every minute. More in the art world. Even more still in urban art.
Pretty easy, really. If an "artist" has no talent, originality or imagination, it's safe to say that all of their work will be crap. Bambi and a few others come to mind. But surely an artist that has 'no' talent isn't an artist, if you make money from art then odiously they do have some talent. Just because they paid money for crap doesn't make it any less craptastic.
Crap, or course, is a subjective term. But when some self-proclaimed artists can't paint or draw, they resort to "borrowing" other artists' work instead. Then they don't even have the intelligence to use it in a new and interesting way. That, to me, is crap.

I can't argue against some of the better worded critiques and wouldn't dream of telling you you're not entitled to an opinion, I would just like to have read something without imagining you giving it some 'dog face' - (meant in good humour) As an aside, I did look at the artist a couple of months back as I expected to find he was a 'bedroom' street artist so it was to his credit that he is getting out on the street with these images, and for some, placement makes a big difference All good...a spirited discussion is a great thing, and this would seem to be the place for such.
I see that most of the works have sold out already, so the mix of art and commerce seems to be working wonderfully.
But I'd be interested in "pro" points of view rather than just "I like it". With regards to the "How To Be Loved" work, what's the deal? To me I see a complete Banksy rip on many levels, and the book/title part seems Mr. Brainwash. Maybe I'm wrong?
Warhol did butterflies before Nick Walker. But I'm sure Andy wasn't the first. Maybe the first Pop artist to do so, which would make him a grandfather of this scene.
