Its a strange situation when rebellious street artists get nervous about posting photos of their work on an Internet forum in fear of it getting a bad reaction. Maybe it's a truer reflection that many artists just use the street to promote their art sales, rather than work on the street honestly saying something or showing a message to passing people.

Is it an idea or concept that the artist is proud of and wants to share the vision/message? Is it just commercial advertising? Have I had my morning coffee yet? |

When I begin to talk, its hard to stop, so up until now Ive held back. I can give you my side: Do as much as possible and work towards getting better, faster and figure out whats interesting both outdoors and in. Ideally Ill make 10 new pieces and later go back and pick the best one. The art world is a fun place because it has no rules, the aim is to make sure everybody has an awesome time by watching or having something new to hang on your wall.

If theres some interest, I might be able to give you some insight of what its like getting an image up on a wall. Everybody only ever gets to see the end result and some of you might even have one of my pieces hanging on your wall, but half the fun is the side you usually dont get to see of getting it on a wall/canvas/print.
If youve got a question, feel free to ask. I cant answer everything, theres things I like to keep under wraps, but Ill do my best to give you some insight when I can.
Ive saved a lot of pictures from the past years that have never seen the light of day, so Ill start out by packing out some of those.
Lesson one: Stencils
They are a piece of art themselves and vary depending on if you are making something that needs to go up fast at night, something large during the day or something indoors on a canvas.
Outdoors, a good quick stencil goes up nice and flat against a wall. For that I make 2 layers fixated together, one with the detailed image and one hard cardboard over to keep it flat.
When an image needs to be close to the ground, the stencil is made to bend 90 degrees to fit around the corner:
Take the bending even further and you can paint on the ground as well
Perfectly overlapping layers, especially in the dark and quickly is one of the biggest challenges. For that I make sort of a book where the layers can be folded on top of eachother:
 
Even more complicated is an image that goes around a corner and using wires to hold fragile stencil pieces together:
Thats just a preview of one type of stencil, mostly for small images that can be painted quickly at night. They are rather complex and I havnt seen anybody do something similar, its all just figuring out for yourself what works.

Theres more of everything but to mix it up, heres a look at some bigger pieces.
One of the most recent was a 4-5 foot tall image. To make it more portable, its made on ~500g paper that can be rolled up.
Wooden bars are attached to the top and bottom to keep the image from curling up on the wall
Paper bridges are left in to hold "floating" pieces in place
The heart was done with the cardboard method
Painting was done in the middle of the night. It went as planned, but the cops did drive by as I was about to start.
Some mid sizes stencils also have the cardboard added, especially the earlier pieces. "Little Lady" was one of the first outdoor pieces and was rather large to carry around.
You learn as you go, now bigger carboard stencils are made to be foldable for transport
One of the biggest rolled up stencils is from the "No Fly List", finished its 6-7 feet.
The umbrella was done as a seperate carboard folding stencil, dont seem to have a picture of it on hand.
Thatll have to do for today. Ill have more for the next round.
