On the closeup photo that you posted of the soldier's heel, the background color seems silver - is this one of the 25 unique colors, or is this they grey version? Thanks!

Yeah, very annoying indeed. You might like This one (I’ve got the orange /10 one and it’s pretty sweet, albeit a clear Pratchett reference).

The silver gleaming is from the special unique "shimmering silver" print, one of the 25 varying spray paint backgrounds.

The new thing with this weeks prints is that they are made with a lot more hands on approach. Many of todays prints are much more modern and automated (definitely nothing wrong with that, works perfect) but to get back to basics and go more old school, a local printing shop was used in order to be part of every step. (The earlier prints were made with some great printers based in the US)
Heres some details in making them:

Normally you would print out the different layers you need on plastic foil (you need these to make the screens). Here the layers were spray painted (in black) onto the plastic sheets so that the silk screens would be a 1/1 copy of an original image.
Below is what will later be the red heart and the black layer spray painted onto plastic sheets:



These are then placed on the silk screens coated in a photoemulsion and placed on a vacuum sealed glass table. The image is burned into the screens through a powerful metal halide light.

Everything underneath the black spray paint can then be washed out, the exposed emulsion has hardened.

Then one by one you can use the screens to apply the different layers of paint. Letting the prints dry in drying racks in between each layer.


Below is the (still clean and unused) black layer screen being adjusted over the print.


Below is one of the better examples showing some elbow grease put into making each layer of each print. Squeegee gets pulled over, forcing the paint through the screen.


Working locally alongside also allowed the possibility of coming in with the 25 prepared spray painted backgrounds and printing the final black layer over them.
