Normally you would print out the different layers you need on plastic foil (you need these to make the screens). Here the layers were spray painted (in black) onto the plastic sheets so that the silk screens would be a 1/1 copy of an original image.

Theres definitely others who have done it and like you said, it was done to make the image a little more authentic and capture some of the spray. |
