Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by WOOF on Mar 24, 2015 19:41:47 GMT 1, There's no new message with these derivative stencils. I know a lot of people like this stuff, but whats new? Machine guns with Butterflies and Julie Andrews with machine guns and juxtaposing images. Mixing innocence and destruction in an amusing way. The dark side and light side art. If there had been a balaclava thrown in then they'd be the whole set. There's a long lineage of this stuff Stewy, JPS to name a few. Just my opinion for what its worth and I'm not usually this negative towards new stuff being put on here, but come on. If you like it enjoy it, but not for me. Same lack of originality can be said for 90% of artists on here. No worries. Not sure I agree with that. Most actually feel very original and unique. Tabby just isn't one of them...

Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by Deleted on Mar 24, 2015 19:48:01 GMT 1, Also just saw there are only 4 of the regular edition prints left; am all about UTB long-term fans getting first dibs, but now I kinda feel bad for TABBY fans who don't know about UTB since it looks like they'll sell out before the general release.
Acidburn were any held back for the general release on thursday?

Off the top of my head, the following artists are frequently discussed on the forum, and have distinct styles that are not lacking in originality: judith supine, ben eine, faile, bast, swoon, invader, roa

Not sure what you mean by examples; I meant more that there are clearly people in this thread who are liking/enjoying his art and think he is talented and creative.
The 'sore' comment thing was more about you referring to him as untalented as though it was an objective statement rather than an opinion.

It's not like faile's comic book collage style, or swoon's wheatpastes IMO.

Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by Deleted on Mar 24, 2015 21:35:55 GMT 1, Tabby is different to Banksy and Bambi and Blek and JPS and the other people like T.Wat and the guy in Australia who did the "change" stencil.
On the surface they all do stencils and look similar.
but they are all different.
Like Football clubs.
It's not just kicking a ball.

I agree. There is an oddly playful element to Tabby's stuff that I feel is not there with other artists. Maybe it is a lack of social commentary (which banksy's stuff is full of), or his use of what almost seems to be exclusively positive images or making potentially controversial images positive. I know these are over generalizations, and not everything fits all his work fits in this description, but I think the abundance of positive images contributes to my overall feeling his artwork is clever, playful, and uplifting. I don't get that same vibe from any other stencil artist (Banksy with certain pieces, but not on the whole).

It's not like faile's comic book collage style, or swoon's wheatpastes IMO. I know you're not trying to argue, and I can see how it's easy to criticize any clever stencil artist. I used to do the same for Nick Walker, but now even I don't think that's fair.
I found out about TABBY randomly around the time I started this thread and was surprised at how quickly this release seems to have sold out. Wasn't a 'hype' release at all so we can at least say that others see and like something that TABBY himself created, otherwise people wouldn't be picking up prints. I'm guessing most people on UTB's mailing list have no clue who TABBY is anyway.

Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by Happy Go Lucky Chap on Mar 25, 2015 3:26:11 GMT 1, Totally agree with @yesss This release appears to have sold out mostly through word of mouth. Asides from being a wall-friendly image, my guess is that a lot picked up the print purely as a speculative punt, given the relatively low release price. There will no doubt be a few making their way to ebay for those who missed out.
I have a few Tabby OGs (not selling). IMO TABBY is defo one to watch for the future. No hype.

Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by Deleted on Mar 25, 2015 11:24:04 GMT 1, I think the screenprint will sell because it has the look and feel of being very Banksyish (it has that dark humour) without being by Banksy and intentional or not think does not matter considering that Banksy prints have a Warhol look about them apart from the rats etc which have a Blek look about them.
I find it odd that some who like Banksy prints and collect Banksy won't consider prints by other "street" artists which are available at a far lower price to complement their collection.

Advertising budgets are huge these days.

Makes a screen print and why not buy it.
Is it no good because it's not retailing at big auction house for thousands and thousands of pounds.

Not the first guy to use stencils but put this style of art on the map and being the prime motivator for making this kind of artwork more widely known. Everyone would love to have a Banksy and many on here do. But there is room for more than just Banksy in the "clever stencil" market. In the end, I just like the image

Please don't think that I am comparing Tabby to Banksy because I'm not. The social commentary/ parody is not on the same level. However, remember what Banksy's sold for on early releases or when Laz was selling them out of the back of his car. I think Tabby though witty is still in his infancy but definitely one to watch progress.
