Banksy Dumbo Print and Video, by Deleted on Mar 11, 2015 20:30:27 GMT 1, I think you need to understand two points. 1. Some banksy collectors are wealthy and banksy sells to them. Doesn't make them any less of a collector or banksy any less of an artist with strong ideals. All it means is that they like banksy, and er are wealthy. Drawing any further conclusions is seriously lazy. 2. How do you think he pays for shows like BOTI or Bristol or whatever is next? He has to sell some serious art to fund these things and so he does this by selling to people who can be trusted not to flip. How many of these or love hurts or various APs do u see for sale? How else should he get the money to do this stuff. You need to get over the price and pow vip factor as if really doesn't change a thing. If it does for you, I'll happpily pick up your banksy prints (with a nice discount to reflect your outrage of course) ;-) That's fine. But is Banksy really a 'street artist' for the people anymore? Or is he just a super famous artist how makes a lot of money now...... .... And spending the majority of his 'wealth' on raising a "little" awareness on things which are in need of some attention

The stellar secondary prices of his work have nothing to do with him being "street". He's as street as it gets IMO.ย
His work isn't really illegal though right. I mean that's why you put in in quotations right?
I mean what other illegal art work do you see being protected by the government. Haha

Banksy Dumbo Print and Video, by loother on Mar 11, 2015 21:41:23 GMT 1, I don't care if he never makes another print, I just don't understand why he'd keep making prints but not let anyone (more or less) see them or buy them. I understand that he needs to fund his street work, but he'd have made more money selling 250 times as many prints for a hundredth of the price, and he'd have made many more people happy in the process. I think he's a very naughty boy and should go stand in the corner.

Yes it really is illegal, unannounced, under cover,
*And he wants to consider himself very lucky he's become so popular otherwise he'd be doing a lot of porridge

Banksy Dumbo Print and Video, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Mar 11, 2015 22:14:25 GMT 1, There's a member of this forum who bought a few OG's (amazing pieces) after the museum show and american tour, and I presume he's on a list of people who have been following banksy from the start? So they get looked after, offered pieces first..
I rembered a few years ago I had some cash to buy a little josh Keyes OG (I'm a big fan) but there was a massive list going back years of his early fans waiting for an OG. So it's common and to be fair we'd all do the same thing.

Well in fact they actually are illegal. I put it in quotes because while against the law for the most part they are desirable. Just a huge contrast to most all other large names that get flown out to a sectioned off wall with a lift and paint waiting. Not that there is anything wrong with that either but my poi t is he's as "street" as it gets.

You have to remember the most recent mass releases. CYW was chaos. NOLA oversold online and he had to produce the grey edition for all the cry babies. If he has a small list of good customers that don't immediately re-sell then why wouldn't he stick to that game plan? The most recent public releases have proven to be nothing but a headache.

Oh yes. Like after they buffed that one they thought might be racist but then realized it was a Banksy and said they would 'welcome' him to paint another.
Lol. Real illegal. Haha

Murk you seem to be wilfully missing the point to fit your own agenda.
Surely the point is (and banksy obviously knows this) is 'his illegal work is now 'legal' because of his value and fame', it doesn't stop the creation from being illegal but just warps the worlds view of it due to the factors I've mentioned. He knows this and plays off this. That's actually an element of his work that has in my opinion taken it off the street and conceptually made it much closer to contemporary art. There's not many street artist who can do that illegally, or choose to do it as so.

You are exactly right. And you just confirmed what I've been saying. "His illegal work is now legal".
