I have a tattoo based on a piece of art work from my childhood, it is awesome, I love it. However I always have a couple of tattoos from my "I don't know what, I don't know where" days that in an ideal world would not be on my body forever. If you are thinking that you are unsure then my advice is wait. You will know what to get when you are ready.

First Tattoo, by supercockle on Mar 12, 2015 7:40:48 GMT 1, Good advice tommyb. I wanted a tattoo for most of my life. I have yet to find one that I would have wanted for the rest of my life. I am now 40 and without tattoo.
Like Heroin, I think I'm going to wait until my mid 90s before getting involved. Much less time to regret the decision that way.

First Tattoo, by Stoko on Mar 12, 2015 8:17:55 GMT 1, My advice would be to say f*** it and get one done. Got my first one when I was 15 - a really, really poor pint pot done by my mate with a needle. We used to get drunk and tattoo each other, which was all fun and games until my mate rang me up one morning - 'which bast&rd tattooed 'Fat Tw*t' on my knuckles?' after which we calmed it down a little. After that I was like you and dreaded regretting them and so didnt get one for years. Then one of my mates died suddenly from a brain haemmorage and at his wake we all decided to do something there and then, which ended up as a tattoo of course. I have a few, all terrible, but I wouldn't take any one of them back. They're like polaroids. Snap shots in life. Don't go 'big' and don't go 'visible' is all I'd advise.

I'm going to buck the trend here and say don't get one. Retain your individuality.
And get something permanent on your body that plenty of other people have got? Tastes change, don't do it.

First Tattoo, by barnsy on Mar 12, 2015 8:47:23 GMT 1, Think long and hard about what you wanna get.
When you decide on the design sit on it for quite a while.
If you still like this design after leaving some 'thinking' time then go for it.
Nothing worse then picking a tattoo you later grow to dislike.
Not only does it cost a hell of a lot more to get removed but that laser stings like hell

First Tattoo, by supercockle on Mar 12, 2015 14:48:09 GMT 1, In my past I have bought a number of pieces of art that I no longer own, primarily because my love of them wained. I even bought some that I decided I didn't like straight away. Unlike art, there is no Looking to Sell thread for tattoos.
If you're getting serious about getting one, stay off the booze for a long time. Whilst a good friend in many respects, booze shouldn't be taken along with you when you're shopping. She makes terrible decisions.
