Angel 41 π¬π§ Graphic Designer β’ Art For Sale & Wanted, by petest on Jan 20, 2009 13:49:33 GMT 1, Hi Angel, I quite often come across your work on ebay.
I used to sell a few bits on ebay and I was quite happy plodding along, but when it came to getting my work into a gallery I was told to knock selling on the 'bay on the head as it cheapened my work. I just wondered whether you have had any experiences like that or whether it hasn't posed you any problems at all?
Cheers

Angel 41 π¬π§ Graphic Designer β’ Art For Sale & Wanted, by angel41 on Jan 20, 2009 14:04:02 GMT 1, Hi Petestreet, you are right some galleries don't like you selling on ebay which I suppose you can understand. Some galleries don't mind though. I think it all depends on the amount your work is going for and the kind of profit these galleries want to make out of you.
Personally, I find ebay the easiest and fastest way to get my work viewed and sold on a global stage. This works for me as it is more important for me to get my work seen and out there rather than the price the work goes for. Word of mouth is a powerful tool.
In the long run I think it's a very logical step in order to build a fan base whilst enjoying what you do.
It all depends what you're in it for really.
Thanks for your time mate and good luck.
Cheers

Angel 41 π¬π§ Graphic Designer β’ Art For Sale & Wanted, by petest on Jan 20, 2009 14:23:40 GMT 1, I agree with you, I was happy just to have another avenue to get work viewed and out there.
I don't/didn't think it was a negative route to take.

Angel 41 π¬π§ Graphic Designer β’ Art For Sale & Wanted, by angel41 on Jan 20, 2009 20:58:28 GMT 1, Yeah, I think producing and selling on a weekly basis is a very satisfying process and allows you to move on after each piece.
Ebay is very unforgiving and prices for your work vary every week which I think keeps you on your toes. I've had plenty of false dawns and slaps in the face but it makes you stronger as an artist.
I must admit that I find the whole experience very exciting and every week I feel very priveleged that people want to buy my work amongst the hundreds of thousands of pieces of art on there.
Ironically I think this is closer to what the scene is about but a lot of people view galleries as a sign of respect.
I think some valid points regarding self representation and galleries were raised on this thread set up by Mike Marcus:
banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=31804&page=1#460097
Thanks for the convo petestreet.
By the way have you PM'd Silky about marking you up with a red star to show that you're an artist on the forum?
Cheers

Angel 41 π¬π§ Graphic Designer β’ Art For Sale & Wanted, by angel41 on Feb 13, 2009 10:20:00 GMT 1, Cheers Wiz. I've been meaning to start this collection for a while now.
I've always loved the initial sketches Fashion Designers do to get across the feeling of the clothes they design. I wanted to combine this with the dark world that the models live in, ie anorexia and drug use.
This concept will run throughout this collection. Really chuffed with this first piece and I hope to maintain this level and develop it further.
As ever thanks for your comments Wiz. Really appreciate it.
Cheers

Personally i always think i'll have a look just before they close, but Sundays am always busy so usually completely forget! I've always kinda had the idea that Sundays are generally slow for auctions n all
Work looking great btw, loved fashion victim!

Angel 41 π¬π§ Graphic Designer β’ Art For Sale & Wanted, by angel41 on Feb 16, 2009 0:01:09 GMT 1, Thank you all for your comments. Really appreciate it. Sorry you missed the auction charlieandpip, I was running a little late with the reminder tonight. My fault.
As soon as I finished the 'catwalking disaster' piece I thought it looked on the Micallef side and I'm really chuffed that other people see it as well as he's one of my favourite artists at the moment. I didn't set out for it to look like Micallef it developed that way. I guess I was going for a dark, haunting vulnerability in the piece which I suppose can be said for a lot of Micallef's work.
Cheers for the comments dellboy. I was under the impression that Sundays were a good night to end auctions but maybe I've got it wrong. I might start mixing things up a bit and see if any interesting patterns emerge. I think Thusday's are meant to be a good night.
Thanks for your time folks.
Cheers
