The print is laid flat on a 1/2 thick piece of cardboard, the slid into a plastic sleeve. The air is the sucked out of the sleeve and sealed, making a tight casing for the print. This is the process as I can infer it.

Is it possible to remove it from the plastic sleeve? I'd be nervous that the plastic shrink wrap process might have damaged the print!

Only air. The place I had it mounted at is reputable here in Toronto, and advise the use of this method for short term storage/display (a few years). I've had it like this for 3 or 4 years (part of the reason i've decided to sell it).
