For those who base the value on what the seller receives.
I would value a print on the pile of money that a seller is willing to part with.
Not what a seller receives after fees.
Don't see a reason why a seller would lie about the private sales price....?

I would value a print on the pile of money that a seller is willing to part with. Not what a seller receives after fees. Don't see a reason why a seller would lie about the private sales price....? |

It must be something in the middle. Someone was willing to shell out ยฃ37k for that piece all together, period, no matter who got what. That same person was willing to give a private seller ยฃ32-35k I'm sure to get the same print, no? |

You've done it now, say he paid ยฃ20k, but he told you ยฃ37.5k, he's just made ยฃ17.5k as you've set the new bench mark.
I can confirm I was the seller in question and did indeed receive the funds for my Sale Ends V2 at 35k.

How did you know? 
On a serious note it is a value-weighted index of all print prices at auction, where 2008 price level = 100. For individual prints for any given month the value is defined as moving average of last 3 month auction results. If there are not results in last 3 months the single latest auction result is taken. The underlying data is shown on Banksy-value.com

In some cases the buyers are having to rely on condition reports and emailed pictures where as they can inspect my print in person. Given that a lot of recent prints being sold at auction have been sold with COA pending are buyers really getting much more protection then from say a private sale with COA?
Ultimately itโs up to the seller to set a price and if itโs too high it wonโt sell. I guess auctions are just one indicator of market cost.

As auction results come in we now see the index reflecting private price increase. Have not updated individual print values. Will do that later today-tomorrow as they are out of date now.
