Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Deleted on Jul 9, 2015 8:22:26 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice. Parting with a few extra pounds for insurance now seems like a no-brainer for the peace of mind it brings!
Hey all, Full time follower and part time poster here. My home contents insurance is up for renewal and I currently only have ยฃ2500 specified for my art print which is a unsigned Rudecopper (which i hasten to add isn't for sale - sorry guys!) I've trawled these boards and various other boards trying to find a reasonable bracket to price it at but as they seem to become available very rarely these days it's hard to tell what the markets doing. I was thinking of insuring it for somewhere between ยฃ5-8k. Do you think that seems like a reasonable assessment of current prices? Any help will be much appreciated! I changed home and contents insurer a few years back and they sent an assessor out to review.. I was explaining to him what id paid for various prints and what i think i might be able to replace them for. He told me to insure for a price that i knew i could secure them on secondary market should i ever need to. As such you should insure for how much you would need to pay to secure a replacement without much haggling and ยฃ5-8k is too low. I would say insure for at least ยฃ10k this year and review it annually, it'll only cost you a few quid more on your premium to insure for ยฃ10k as opposed to ยฃ8k.

The NBG was a real bargain at that price ! I paid ยฃ10.5k last August for it and i thought that was a good price at that time.
I would say you'd be lucky to get a festival for less than ยฃ10k.

It is really tough to price Festival and also Sale Ends since they so rarely enter the market. Last Sale Ends I saw was GBP 9300 in February, so 10k for Festival does not sound surprising. There is a rarity premium on these two "lost prints" from the LA collection.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Unica on Jul 12, 2015 16:55:13 GMT 1, I think they are pretty much the same price IMO, although I would prefer a nice colourway over the original version given my choice. I would get in touch with Andy at Castle Gallery, he is a gent to deal with and will give you a better idea of prices, as they seem rise so rapidly its hard to keep pace.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Unica on Jul 13, 2015 1:35:44 GMT 1, What's a fair price for an unsigned WSM right now? Looking to buy. Hard to keep track of what a fair value is at the moment! Appreciate the wisdom! Cheers, Phil Hang up have one for ยฃ3,5k Yes, its unsigned but a decent price. The quads go for more than the single, they are a lot smaller edition I think. I personally like the single can myself, has a little more presence.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by coller on Jul 16, 2015 0:06:48 GMT 1, Question: how do you value a unique piece for the purpose of insurance?
I have a signed MQ gift print with Pest Control COA (not for sale before anyone asks); obviously not replaceable as there weren't two prints gifted. The print has condition issues (two creases; the colors/edges are great), but I don't think a replacement with a signed version from the edition of 150 would be okay on my end since it'd feel much less special to me (even in mint condition) since the gift print isn't numbered and has a message written along the bottom of the print by Mr. B, albeit not to me but to the original owner.
Any ideas? I guess it would be similar to insuring an OG that isn't part of an edition, but have never done that either.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Black Apple Art on Jul 16, 2015 1:07:13 GMT 1, Not sure what type of policy you have coller but I highly push towards blanket policies and have recommended them here several times. As for rare prints like mentioned I would assign at least a 25% premium to it. The problem with this whole system is when your piece or pieces increase in value, especially at the rate Banksy works have been, you can easily be again undercovered in a years time and take on the tedious routine of adjusting your policy again and again over time. See my older post bellow as well.
"I know there are several ways of insuring art but have found the best coverage for protecting your true value for a total collection is having a blanket policy for a set amount of total coverage. Then at the time of a loss each claimed piece is dealt with on it's own to establish market value or replacement cost at time time of loss. Especially with Banksy, it never does you justice to insure at the current or even slightly over the current replacement cost as you will have no idea what that cost will be at the time of a loss and it is just futile to have to worry about constantly submitting itemized price estimates and relying on threads like this for you pieces to keep up to date. Just an opinion and have had many good friends do that same that are very happy with this system. "

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Metropolis Art on Jul 16, 2015 15:40:33 GMT 1, Make sure your insurance cover is for a full replacement value at current market costs, as opposed to the price you paid for it, which is the norm. A lot of insurance companies don't embrace the 'new for old' policy on art. We know from past experience the cost of not checking that.
