No the postcards are being sold from some gallery on Etsy (tempusarts) if I Remember correctly. I posted the postcards up as I've never heard of them either. Plus the guy was also selling a signed di faced tenner for 2450 which comes with an interesting albeit sketchy provanance.

In answer to this question - as I remember, and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, the last Love Rat that went to auction was £20k. That was some time ago - I can't remember which auction house but it was several months ago. Since then Banksy prices seem to have kept on rising. I have a feeling if you wanted to buy a signed Love Rat from a gallery you would be looking at £25k at least. Personally I don't think it would be stretching the bounds of possibility to see a £30k price tag on it. I think this applies equally to Gangsta Rat - I reckon that is about the same price as a Love Rat. I think the Placard Rat would be cheaper.
That is only my opinion and I look forward to it being challenged by someone who knows more because I would like to know the answer myself

I agree - I would imagine the different colour ways would be a fair bit more - personally I would put a colourway gangsta rat at £35k upwards. The rats are an early print, an iconic print, and a wall friendly print, so if we are talking in terms £40k for a Stop and Search then I can't see why £40k for a rare colour way of of a desirable and iconic early print is that unexpected - but this is my opinion/guess - so it could be wrong

My comment was a wee bit flippant.
andy at castle is as top a guy as you will meet anywhere in any profession. even some of the other more well known and well established dealers have pulled borderline shady practices, but andy seems genuinely to be in it for the love and is happy to help people out. ive had 5 dealings with him and everytime i was over the moon, and he looked out for me on more than one occasion. ive dealt with others as well, they ranged from annoying to ok but you wont see me go out of my way to mention them.

what would be reasonable? As you probably know, while the silver flags was a larger unsigned edition, being on chromalux paper made it extremely fragile and odds are there aren't too many out there in top collectable condition even given the size run. IMO it's a fantastic image and was always undervalued, so I see the recent increases as more of a correction than "over pricing". In general most pieces may seem to be "high market" or "expensive" relative to past prices. For me, having a top condition piece and a reliable and or verified source is most important. "Market" or "top dollar" pricing now historically has always been an unrealistic steal a year later so you have to gauge how much you will be benefiting collectively by passing on a piece you really want now expecting a better deal in the future. |
