I guess if there is a button to click to make witty art he still needs to get the plugin.
The tattoo stuff was cool. This is just a lazy attempt at cashing in on the SW franchise.

Haha. That 2nd point makes as little sense as his art.
Why does he care what idiots like us think, if he's so sure in his work? And the funniest thing is that if it wasn't for a few trying to hype him here, we wouldn't be talking about him at all.
Can we stop now? Please!

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by londonfx on May 5, 2015 12:40:25 GMT 1, I don't think there's any hype here. Just people saying they like his work. People constructively critising it. And people agressively slating it.
There's s lot more haters than lovers. This is suppose to be a friendly forum. This thread has turned into personal attacks

You don't like it because you are used to collecting stencils and different street art.
I do not really like monet or picasso even though it is popular - but it does not mean i need to keep slating it.

I dont think this has to do with taste at all, this is commercial art sold by a commercial artist by commercial galleries. I think there is a big difference from a commercial artist and a fine artist and it has nothing to do with mediums, styles, genre etc. Most can look it up and understand the difference.

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by dodsi on May 5, 2015 13:17:02 GMT 1, I have been accused of being Eye Kandi art for my enjoyment and appreciation of JJ's work on this very thread. It's a little mad the reaction his work has caused on here with the haters so passionately hating and making it really personal to those who like his work. I don't think anybody is hyping the work here - just sharing an opinion of liking it. Invader is way more 'hyped' on here by the same definition and look at the detail in a lot of his work. This statement is not to say I hate his work, just i don't think I would buy it and I don't understand how it has become so valuable. But by the same virtue I would not buy a lot of JJ's work because I simply do not like those pieces.
I have met JJ on a couple of occasions at the launches and he is a pretty chilled out character with a decent sense of humor and quite unaffected (as someone else on here has described him before) by the whole thing. He appears to enjoy what he does and is always happy to talk through his work. I understand why he has tweeted what he has - not sure in the same position I would do the same but fair play to him.
There is nothing wrong with his work being "commercial" nobody is forcing it upon anybody and if what appears to be a growing number of people are buying and enjoying his work who are we to judge? The first piece I purchased was one myself and my girlfriend (at the time - now wife) walked passed a gallery and both instantly adored in the window what turned out to be his "Wizard of Oz" piece. We had not heard of the artist had no idea about any "value" it may have had at this point. A couple of weeks later we got engaged and were asked by family what we wanted as an engagement present and it popped into our heads the picture we had seen in the gallery window so we called the gallery and purchased it. Then when picking the piece up I saw his R2D2 picture and the starwars nerd in me just had to have it - I had no idea how much it would appreciate in value and was not purchased for that reason.
So really, it is no different to hearing a piece of "commercial" music on the radio/on TV/in a shop and buying the album?
Do I like all of the Albums by Red Hot Chilli Peppers? did I buy the most recent release by RHCP? No... but doesn't mean that if I like them I am hyping them or own a gallery/am part of the record company.

Q: What is a derivative work and who owns the copyright?
A derivative work is one that is based on one or more earlier works. Derivative works include editorial revisions, annotations or other types of modifications. The work must be different enough from the original to be regarded as a new workโin other words, it must contain some substantial, not merely trivial, originality.
www.copyright.gov/circs/circ14.pdf
Right to Prepare Derivative Works Only the owner of copyright in a work has the right to prepare, or to authorize someone else to create, an adaptation of that work. The owner of a copyright is generally the author or someone who has obtained the exclusive rights from the author. In any case where a copyrighted work is used without the permission of the copyright owner, copyright protection will not extend to any part of the work in which such material has been used unlawfully. The unauthorized adaption of a work may constitute copyright infringement.
Whether these artists had permission from the copyright holders to modify the images or used images in the public domain I have no idea.
Whether slapping on a bit of color and tattoos on photos is time consuming and because it is time consuming makes it art. Is not much of a valid point.

Why not exactly FR?
It's a forum not a blog and you are not editor in chief.
Whats the problem exactly?
Is it because you are heavily defending or promotings these very attractively framed and for sale piรจces of decorative merchandise?
My copyright comments are very very relevant and buyers should ask questions before parting with their money as to was permission given to modify photographs which people made who earn a living from it.
Why shouldn't the people who made the original photographs make money from licensing their images?
I am not accusing anyone of just lifting images and modifying them without permission.
If people who make ltd editions using photoshop have permission.
I say more power to them and may their keyboard be golden.
but FR don't use your authority as a forum guardian to say what can and cannot be written in an online conversation because copyright discussion and photoshopped images go hand in hand.
If one were to follow your logic then we won't be having any more posts about Banksy or anyone else because Banksy and lots of conversations have been done over and over again on here.
Thats just my opinion.
and haven't you repeated some posts when it suits you?

I am not accusing anyone of just lifting images and modifying them without permission.
If people who make ltd editions using photoshop have permission.
I say more power to them and may their keyboard be golden.
but FR don't use your authority as a forum guardian to say what can and cannot be written in an online conversation because copyright discussion and photoshopped images go hand in hand.
If one were to follow your logic then we won't be having any more posts about Banksy or anyone else because Banksy and lots of conversations have been done over and over again on here.
Thats just my opinion.
and haven't you repeated some posts when it suits you?

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Daniel Silk on May 5, 2015 13:44:56 GMT 1, I do not agree at all with the 5 minute photoshop comments. the concept through to finished product is weeks. then it needs printing and posting out. With these they also get framed for ยฃ495 Hi JJ by the way ...that's very funny ... Haaa yeah lets not forget the skills of the Framer.

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Dr Plip on May 5, 2015 14:28:17 GMT 1, I like his attitude. Anyone here met him? He seems nice. I've met him a couple of times now, and can say he's really nice and always seems to have time for anyone that does want a chat.... and yes I know the discussion wasn't about his personality or him as a person but since someone asked. Cool.
Artists are people too. Dysfunctional people, but still people

Not exactly apples and apples there? I quite like my mate's Audrey Hepburn black and white thingy but then I like Audrey Hepburn, so I would. The rest of it's a bit contrived and twee, not necessarily Athena but not a million miles away either.
The fact that the bloke himself is a decent bloke is somewhat irrelevant, as if being a total wanker excludes you from being good at anything (except not being a total wanker).
And FR is the sheriff around these parts now, so be careful not to argue with him as that would make you a very, very naughty boy and you will get told off....

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Deleted on May 6, 2015 19:33:04 GMT 1, One reason that there are not lots and lots of people doing this type of "art" as ltd editions and only doing it for fun for themselves or as fan art not for sale or reproduction is because lots and lots of people are worried about the legalities of using iconic photographs owned by some pro photographer or media company or photo agency.
Hence that is why there is not lots of this stuff for sale a smost people won't take the chance.
It's nothing to do with artistic skill, although I do agree that some great adverts and images started off by people with great artistic vision.
It's not rocket science just Google "photoshop tattoos"

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Hairbland on May 8, 2015 12:38:27 GMT 1, ]Do I like all of the Albums by Red Hot Chilli Peppers? did I buy the most recent release by RHCP? No... but doesn't mean that if I like them I am hyping them or own a gallery/am part of the record company.
A better analogy would be Coldplay, who seem a corporate mish mash of what's popular, have risen high in the music world, and have largely created a body of work that sucks yet is quite popular.

See anyone would just think you want to disagree with anyone who supports JJ. I stand by my analogy on the basis I like (some of) RHCPs work. Coldplay have no redeeming features. (Opens up line for nay sayers)
