POSE πΊπΈ Jordan Nickel β’ Chicago Graffiti Art , by Howard Johnson on Sept 20, 2016 17:17:50 GMT 1, Was I the only one who felt underwhelmed by this body of work? The male portrait set and cowboys were pretty good, but I found the rest of the pieces to be not up to the standard of POSE's previous work. The Woman and Gun sets kinda felt like those cheap "Street Art" Warhol knockoffs you find on etsy or Society6. The large canvas was similarity perplexing, not really technically ambitious enough to stand on its own as a great abstract work, and it didn't really have any connection to the exhibition as a whole. I guess thats all really just my opinion, but I didn't see anything that really stood out as a noteworthy evolution on what he's created thus far. At least the prices were quite fair compared to his other exhibitions.
I admire the artist for branching out in a new direction, but I think it may take some time for him to find his groove.

The guns, if you read about the show were inspired by the Roy L Time cover from the 60s.
The woman set definitely had a Warhol feel, but with distinct POSE traits. Would you argue that Banksy's KM set is a rip off as well? Seems way more blatant than this body. Much more ambitious than most street artists who take exact images of previous works and tweak them ever so slightly.
The abstract piece was great in person, you could really see bits and pieces of the original painting underneath. It was of two cowboys squaring off facing each other.
The other 3 cowboy pieces were massive in person and really stood out when you walked into the room.
Guns in my opinion were also great. Very focused in comparison to his previous work, but still inverted enough to be distinct POSE.
I personally loved the show and thought every piece was great.

POSE πΊπΈ Jordan Nickel β’ Chicago Graffiti Art , by sugar72 on Sept 20, 2016 17:33:46 GMT 1, I think he has found a mature groove personally and brave of him to move in this direction. I personally love the style of all his new pieces and seeing how the event went and how many sold it would appear that many agree. But that is my opinion. I like this art but I dislike others but that is what is good about art is its subjectivity.

Exactly if you read his reasons for the pieces it makes sense of the better and mature direction he is going in.
The gun pictures personally are very exact and focused in meaning

POSE πΊπΈ Jordan Nickel β’ Chicago Graffiti Art , by Howard Johnson on Sept 20, 2016 17:44:04 GMT 1, My personal thoughts on the KM Banksy are similer but the market clearly feels differently, lol. I am surprised you saw Cowboys in the canvas, I stared at it for ages and couldn't figure it out. I'm a huge fan of pose and think he's one of the great young talents on the scene, I just didn't think this exhibition was his best work. The exploration of Cowboys and Warhol/Lichtenstein ascetic as a comment on American culture has been done to death by contemporary heavy weights like Richard Prince and street artists like Dface. It's certainly a fertile ground for exploration but I dont think this body of work was particularly interesting evolution on what has come before. Just my humble opinion.

I think the thing is you shouldn't have to force art and stare at it for ages!
If it's not there then it's not for you and move one.

Thats very true, and I'm glad most fans really liked the exhibition. I'm probably a bit critical due to my admiration of Pose as an artist. I think he has the potential to be one of the great street artists of our generation, and was disappointed to see such a heavy influence of Prince and Lichtenstein in these works. Art certainly builds upon itself and there will always be shades of influences in any artists work, but I feel like his work up to this point has been a unique and wonderful evolution of the pop ascetic. In contrast, the works at this exhibition felt like a direct reinterpretation of Prince and Lichtenstein by the artist. Certainly thats not a crime considering the slew of uninspired work that pollutes the street scene, and the gun imagery is defiantly timely, but I just think Pose is capable of much more interesting work. I imagine this was just the beginning of a great new body of work from the artist.

He will evolve and grow. This is a special exhibition though, being the start of this upward projection

Agree with this point, Chris. It does feel like a step in a new direction, and I made sure to buy a piece to commemorate it. Overall, I was pleased with the show, as the old style was getting a little stale/repetitive for me. Good thing art is subjective.

Thanks for sharing as it explained the reason behind each piece and how they relate to the past but at the same time is grounded in the problems of today! In particular the Untitled (Reactions #1-4).
On a separate note, has anyone received any shipping information for the print release?
