POSE πΊπΈ Jordan Nickel β’ Chicago Graffiti Art , by davievegas on Aug 23, 2017 19:36:21 GMT 1, I stay away from releases with the same image. It devalues the original Pose - Doll image that buyers purchased thinking these were going to be the only 100 of this image. I feel artists that do this have nothing new to release and its a money grab. I feel for the collectors here. I have started to collect Pose less because his images are either rehashed images or images that are not of my liking because of his direction. Eelus has been doing this and you see the way his career is going.

POSE πΊπΈ Jordan Nickel β’ Chicago Graffiti Art , by Con Art Studio on Aug 23, 2017 19:48:40 GMT 1, The problem with the mailing list is that many people who are subscribed never receive any e-mails with presale information. If the list is for "existing customers", then most people who wish to become a customer are unable to since the prints are usually gone when they are publicly available. Seeing as the print is still available and there is no difference in price, I don't see the harm in posting the password. The pre-sale is given as a way of thanks to loyal customers. I Imagine a lot of people receiving these emails have been purchasing prints from the very begging. There would be no point in a pre-sale if everyone was receiving the link through signing up for the mailing list. It's important to keep integrity of why the artist does something this way. i've never bought a print from pose and I received every presale email/link, including this one.
So much for that theory

The original Doll 3 print was released via Jonathan Levine, but after both JLG & Pose's first edition (Rinse and Repeat) and POP!NK & Pose's first edition (Blot). Seeing as how POP!NK has done all other editions, I am guessing he wished this would have been done by them. So he updated it, changed the colors and produced something that looks way better than the first Doll 3 edition. Just my opinion and interpretation of it though.

It was just mine. I do not like images that are done more then once with such small adjustments. Color change and pop ink making them with higher quality is not enough for me to fall for it. Mr Brainwash does this ALL the time and even though he sells out, the rehashed images do not always do better then the original or even look as good. Its great for people to collect an image they never bought before, but that would be the only positive outlook for me with rehashed images.

POSE πΊπΈ Jordan Nickel β’ Chicago Graffiti Art , by Howard Johnson on Aug 23, 2017 20:16:06 GMT 1, Love pose's artwork, but becoming worried about his output. He's released so many prints with high editions these past few years I have trouble believeing they will hold their value. I'm more then happy to shell out 500$ for his multiples as POPINK is such a great publisher, but it's becoming harder to justify that price point. At this point it makes much more sense to wait out for an OG or hpm around 1-2k as he's now got thousands of these prints in circulation.
Not a dig on the quality of his art, as I think he's one of the few interesting new talents to come to scene these past few years.

I only have HPMS of his. Buying the regular version for $100 less was never an option for me personally. Unless I LOVE the image and hpms are sold out, maybe id think about it.

An hpm is different than a hand finished print. Stands for hand painted multiple and pose often makes small editions of painted and sprayed works. Typically around $1500 for his I believe.

I agree with a lot of the discussion on here about print numbers - I think id be tempted by the hand finished versions. But I wouldn't call those HPM's, they're just prints on wood. No hand finishing or collage elements.

I'm not aware of "hfm" as a term of art, but I could be behind the times. HPM is "hand painted multiple" and usually refers to any printed edition that has been hand painted/collaged/stenciled etc. These terms get trickey with artists like pose and fairey who produce multiple editions of an image, all with different amounts of additions by the artist.
Personally I love this approach to editions, as it gives fans of all budgets different options when it comes to purchasing. More options = more fans of all wealth levels. However, I think fairey rightly understood that if your going to employ that structure, the price points need to accurately reflect that fact. Just in terms of basic economics, without consideration to the fact that fairey prints have higher editions and are less technical, it doesn't quite make sense that the price points between the wood/aluminum fairey editions are the same as poses wood/hpm editions (also not considering the cheaper ones he did with the earlier releases), yet poses prints are 10x more expensive.
Not to knock pose or popink as both are fantastic talents, but I think he would better drive demand if he either reduced the print price point or substantially lowered his edition sizes/output. Just my two cents.

Or just reach out to Dante at Hellopose. He will send it straight away and also likely add you to the mailer for future releases. I am all for sharing within the community but we should respect artists wanting to do a private presale as well IMO. I respect your point of view and I understand your reasoning but I imagine you should be the first happy when info about future editions will soon be available ... for your favorite artists? I consider this forum as a place of sharing and exchanges. I do not regard art as something elitist and reserved for a certain category of people. Dante has expressed more than once that giving out the password is not what he intended if he did everyone one of you would of received it... As i posted earlier if you did not recieve a pre sale email just contact Dante and he will help you out. Posting the password on a open forum was a dick move...

So much for that theory You literally contradicted yourself by saying you've recieved " Every presale/link,"Β implying you've been following the artist for quite sometime and most likely signed up for the email list a long time ago and not recently. i'm not a customer. You theorized some people weren't getting the presale email because it was for the loyal customers as a way to say thanks... and that those receiving the emails have been purchasing prints from the beginning. You also stated there would be no point in a pre-sale if people could just sign up to his list and get it.
i've never bought something from him therefore I am not a customer of his. I was also not on his mailing list from the beginning and I did exactly what you said there would be no point in him doing - I just went to his site and signed up for his mailing list.
I contradicted everything you theorized
With that said, there seems to be no rhyme or reason why some are getting the email and some are not.

I contradicted everything you theorized With that said, there seems to be no rhyme or reason why some are getting the email and some are not.

No hand finishing or collage elements. Actually some of them were HPM's. Spiral and Fin at least. I was saying that the sub 2k pieces are works on wood, not HPM's.
HPM's used to be on either poster board or clay board. In fact, Fin might be the only one where the HPM is on wood.
Spiral, for instance, HPM's were on "2β Cradled Gesso Board" and the wood edition of 8 was on "1.5β Cradled Birch Panel"

POSE πΊπΈ Jordan Nickel β’ Chicago Graffiti Art , by Howard Johnson on Aug 24, 2017 0:15:23 GMT 1, This is actually a good question for a printer or gallerist. Would all these smaller editions be properly classified as hpms or just "mixed media" editions? My understanding is that anything beyond simply a print on paper is "mixed media," and hpms are variations on a specific editions but don't technically need to be "painted." I.e. A lot of the faireys on wood are hpms because of the collaged background, but that aspect is done in studio before the work is screened, and doesn't technically involve the artist painting the print.
Also, where the hell do bast and faile fall into this discussion? The majority of their editions are extensively hand painted but not classified as hpms.

Prolly going to pass on the headache of trying for the new invader and get this instead. It's not up on his site though and I didn't get an email (if that's where this info is coming from)? Obviously, this was a better move. I hope you grabbed one. Interestingly enough though it's still available. Ah, but for how long is the question. At least Pose isn't full of shit on his releases. Did anyone really think they could trust Steve Lazaride? C'mon man...
