Lucas Price ๐ฌ๐ง Cyclops โข Burning Candy Graffiti Crew, by rebelate on Oct 28, 2015 21:34:00 GMT 1, I don't understand this at all. Artists who stick to one style are criticised for not developing or even "milking it". They can't win! Personally I love to see an artists work develop If he'd stuck to one style, we wouldn't be seeing this fine art at all. See nothing wrong with an artist giving it a shot and if someone wants it on their wall... Hey, Laz has got something for ya. An inkjet print of a photo of a basketball painting... That perplexes me, but hey who is anyone to tell you you don't like something. Agreed, it's his career on the line. But sometimes it takes a lot of time for artist to recover after "trying something new". For example Hush with the nubian girls, failed in my opinion, now he's back to developing his talents with the 20 something color hand finished prints, Dolk's last showing was horrible as well. But yea, if you like to see a sleep walking handicap person on your wall, who am I to tell you what's to blatantly horrible about it

Lucas Price ๐ฌ๐ง Cyclops โข Burning Candy Graffiti Crew, by Feral Things on Oct 28, 2015 23:46:00 GMT 1, Lucas Price has always produced a very diverse body of work; 10 years ago he was writing Cyclops, painting expressionist portraiture and producing pop-art influenced Charlie Brown pieces all during the same period.ย Personally, I've always felt like the different styles gives him the ability to explore different ideas without being constrained by the limitations of any one style - kind of like Richter with his photorealistic portraits and purely abstract squeege work.
Although there's an element of experimentation in all art, I think the works from the Dumb Poetry show are far more a result of continuing to develop ideas from the last few years rather than trying something new for the sake of it.ย The fire extinguishers and basketballs feel like a progression of the still life work he started developing during the Fine Art MA at the RCA; the two pot plant canvases below are from his T.E.A.M. Atlas exhibition from 2013.ย
I think the ideas around the Dumb Poetry show were really interesting.ย On the face of it the works were about the inanimate objects and whether they carry any innate meaning but, for me, the reality is that the works were about us projecting our own experiences and associations onto the otherwise ambiguous text and objects, so that the objects said more about us than they did about themselves.
I've gotta say, I really loved the 'For Ferguson' canvas from the show.

Artists generally develop their style continually throughout their careers. Often going through different phases even in a single style.

This can't be true is it? I can see using helpers on projects but if you are selling a print of a photorealistic painting which you did not paint, well, that's seems a bit "off" Maybe that's the whole idea behind the concept. Concept, Photographic print, Reproduction Canvas, Reproduced as inkjet print. You could frame it, rephotograph it in the frame and start the process over again. If it's all above board and promoted as such, then it's quite interesting. If it's all a bit underhand and hidden, then I'd say it's questionable.

Yeah there's quite a difference. Perhaps he's just showing off!

Lucas Price ๐ฌ๐ง Cyclops โข Burning Candy Graffiti Crew, by estelle getty fan club on Oct 30, 2015 11:09:56 GMT 1, I must admit I am a huge fan of his female portraits and love the rationale behind them. I have one original by Lucas on paper and wish I had bought more at a time when they were somewhat more affordable. Lucas' 'The Way of All Fleshโ show at Outsiders was a huge stepup in terms of development and the point his original work became unobtainable for me unfortunately.
On a separate note is there much interest in Lucas' prints on the secondary market? I have a Universal Minds print that's no longer on the wall and unsure whether to unframe and store away or put up on here.

Lucas Price ๐ฌ๐ง Cyclops โข Burning Candy Graffiti Crew, by Deleted on Nov 7, 2015 20:12:00 GMT 1, Hi, I'm helping to place some new studies. These are A5 size and there are 10 available hand drawn originals on acid free paper and will signed, stamped and dated by the artist. All works will be supported by COA. These are the studies for a bigger body of work set to come later in the year. The concept of these 'pins' and 'badges' will be executed as miniature oils and will be in a series of 100 all different. This is a chance to grab an original by this talented, driven artist. The price on these is ยฃ250 and will work on a first come first served basis. Please PM me with interest and your option. Please no offers or trades as this is from studio not from my collection! Always regretted not picking up one of these at the time. Does anybody know if the full set of 100 was ever completed or where there are any looking for a new home? Cheers E
