Is it at all suspicious that the winner was the father of the US Treasury Secretary, or is that just fake news?

I took some pics of the Rabbit and a few other Koons pieces when i was in the Broad last Summer... Id say it was over shadowed by the Dog .. Really stunning pieces, and the quality of the finish on the mirrored works is amazing

Does the artist actually hands on make these sculpture pieces himself?

The assistants in the production of the art piece are they technically entitled to a share of artists resale rights as they produced the art piece

Koons was (in)famous for having the concept, then hiring out the best craftsmen available.

Those early large polychrome wood pieces were made by top Italian craftsmen.

Apparently he had invented the translucent anodized colorful coating that is on the balloon dogs, tulips, etc., sculptures. He had the vision of what he wanted them to look like, that coating finish didn't yet exist, so he set his staff to the task of making it happen.

Helps to know that Jeff Koons early on was a futures trader -- the act of selling goods one has yet to procure -- a concept he carried over into his art.

i like the bunny more than the balloon dog. it is gorgeous, imo.

and that "monkey with white michael jackson" sculpture scares the s**t out of me.

many connections to rig a market , currency traders , stock traders in general are generally known to manipulate markets for profit , art market is easy with the right connections, wild thoughts out the way , take away the sale price , it's still is a nice art piece .. the Micheal Jackson piece , the monkey reminds me of the 60s original planet of the apes

  Some old guy aged 86 alledgedly bought this rabbit balloon thing for 91 million.

  

 Did money actually change hands to buy this for 91 mil. I very much doubt it.

Who owned this piece at the time of the auction?

    These record prices serve a purpose as in showing the world that there is a healty market and demand for crap. It prevents the market stagnating.

I take this sale with a pinch of salt.

  

Interesting. These were released through the Ashmolean museum to coincide with the Koons show there for 11,500 pounds (so basically the same price).

It has been up at the ashmolean shop for a while. If you are in Europe this should be the slightly better option to buy.
