The experts are not (Chrisp, Sperling, Cano Fraile, Doko ...). No art skills or qualifications other than running online galleries. Plus the fees are huge..9% for buyers and 20% for sellers. Catawiki earns 30% of the item's value on each premium item!
In addition, fees apply to the price of the item + shipping costs! which is scandalous. They modify the ads without asking you, impossible to contact them ... the list is long.
I strongly advise against, bad experience as a buyer.

Rather than paying $11k on the primary market, Phillips have them going with estimates of $4000-6000. ยฃ3.3k for a real one is a far better buy than ยฃ1600 for a fake, even if it is sold as "after", which 95% of the time means it's literally worthless.

These are after the original work (in the British Museum) but authorised by the artist, again after does not necessarily mean fake, it means it is copy, it can be a digital or mechanical copy or by another artist. You get authorised afters which can sometimes even be signed by the original artist and unauthorised ones which the artist has no involvement or interest. |

So there appear to be many different uses of the term. Regardless, the buyer needs to do their research and be very aware of what they are bidding on / buying.
