BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by barryh on Aug 23, 2015 13:03:32 GMT 1, Attend the show, consume the art, not items from the gift shop... Leave your camera at home and look with you eyes, not a lense. If it hasn't been photographed by 10000 people already, then it probably wasn't worth documenting.

Clearly this guy was the wrong journalist to send to the exhibition.

Jones did not even review the fifty plus artists exhibiting.
Not one mention of their names or their art.
Maybe he was too eager to get away from the nether regions of England and scared in case he got lost and surrounded by feral chavs who mistake his posh voice for some sort of foreign invader.
Not one mention of Hirsts big floaty ball or any of the other artists who Jones could interpret as meaningful.
Amazing also that Guardian is very left wing that Jones does not take advantage of how run down seaside towns are.

He just dislikes Banksy because he's not a "proper" painter. His work isn't complicated enough. Not elitist enough. And the way his article doesn't mention the other artists is pretty pathetic. But I have to say, he's not alone in that regard. A lot of the media are focussing on Banksy and neglecting the other artists.
Also I will add that Jones comes across as a very bitter tit.

In the painting, Sir Nicholas Serota Makes An Acquisitions Decision, the Tate boss asks: "Is it a genuine Emin (ยฃ10,000) or a worthless fake?" The work is valued at ยฃ30,000. www.standard.co.uk/arts/modern-art-is-pants-7080923.html

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by kobron on Aug 23, 2015 16:56:48 GMT 1, Nice piece in the Sunday Times by Waldemar Januszczak "It adds up to an experience that keeps pummelling you with surprises". The shenanigans began a couple of months ago when my phone started to fill up with messages to phone Jo Brooks. Oh no, I thought. The trouble with Brooks is that she does the press for Banksy, Britainโs most cunning and manipulative street artist. When Brooks leaves messages on your phone you know you are going to be cunningly manipulated. And so it turned out.
A few days later, I was at the degree show at the Royal College of Art when the phone rang and I absentmindedly punched the green button. โWaldemar. Itโs Jo. Youโll never guess what Banksy is going to do. Itโs going to be the biggest thing heโs ever done. A-mazing, Waldemar. A-mazing.โ

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by European Bob on Aug 23, 2015 20:46:31 GMT 1, I was fortunate enough to get into the preview night and I was like a kid in a candy shop! The whole experience was simply amazing. I was just taken aback by whole atmosphere; the employees, the music, the scale and every single detail was just outstanding! There was just so much to take in and my attention was grabbed every time I turned around! It was a great evening and one that I won't forget! Just wish that drive wasn't so long.
I have updated my ig (@european_bob) with some vids/pics and will be updating when I can. I know theres so many pics out there already.

Not sure where we are on spoilers but as a video you have to click it to play so am fairly comfortable to leave it here until I've caught up on the proper place to put it
It is the Grim Reaper in full - so if you are avoiding pictures then don't click it - for the rest enjoy.

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 11 on Aug 24, 2015 0:17:07 GMT 1, Every story I've heard or was part of was just dismally brilliant - which reminds me, I was halfway through creating that 3 three hours ago and somehow ended up on another tab.
Will be up in a minute and I'll sweep a few in there if thats ok with everyone......any objections will be duly ignored

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by BootjackBandit on Aug 24, 2015 4:04:43 GMT 1, The whole mocking Disney thing seems a bit trite and out of date, I feel it's been done a thousand thousand times already, even J-boy's done it for Gawd sake. Sick of seeing it tbh. i somewhat agree, however, this looks to be pretty epically done.

Agree 100% on the overused concept of Disney mockery. However, the size and scale of this thing is rather refreshing. The reactions and delight that has been created is amazing. I do hope that Mr. B evolves away from Disney mockery and focuses on more relevant social themes (which he has to some extent in WSM, so I give him a last pass on the mouse).

"A last pass"?... I think picking up a Wall and Piece and or Level of Threat would point out massive volumes of diversity, messages and mediums. To jump back to this as a vehicle to display new works, ideas and other artists at this scale for such an experience gives more than "a pass" for me but credit for pulling it off. Can't think or another artist that has done anything even close to this in scale or sophistication, ever.

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Deleted on Aug 24, 2015 8:39:08 GMT 1, The art critics as in the Professional ones like Jones and Januszczak are a real disspointment and show themselves for the shallow media types they really are.
It's good for Banksy if he likes butt buffing and schmoozing with BBC types.
The dissapointment is that not one mention of the Palestinian, Israeli, Iranian, Syrian, artists exhibiting together in this show.
Which for Guardian Jones is surprising and BBC Januszczak is not surprising.
