BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Invaded 420 on Aug 24, 2015 13:19:32 GMT 1, Thanks. At least when I'm in the missus can amuse him while I wait in line for the inside attractions, i would say head to as many of the inside ones as early as possible when your in. For the first 2 hours you could pretty much walk into any of the tents/rooms We kept goin back at the times it stated to catch the reaper in the main room. On the hour and every 15 mins but didnt catch it. Then later the queue was way to long to get back in and didnt even know if itd be going. Plus it was hammering down again and had already spent 6 hours queuing in the rain so left it. Will go back for sure.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by lha on Aug 24, 2015 13:19:40 GMT 1, I thought it was thought provoking, funny, bemusing, rude, overwhelming and dismal… but that was the 5 hours spent in the beer garden, with a who's who of forum members, before I went to the Tropicana. And to be honest, when I got in I didn't think the lido was really ready to reopen. They could have done a bit more to make the pool swimmable, there was still loads of graffiti everywhere, scaffolding that looked vaguely dangerous and definitely no life guards. Haha! Nice one AP Good to meet you and the other folks at he weekend. Had an absolute blast. What a stellar bunch of gents, really added something special to the weekends adventures. Sorry not to catch you on the Saturday before you left, was in the queue waiting to get in again

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by bgt5002 on Aug 24, 2015 13:37:38 GMT 1, "A last pass"?... I think picking up a Wall and Piece and or Level of Threat would point out massive volumes of diversity, messages and mediums. To jump back to this as a vehicle to display new works, ideas and other artists at this scale for such an experience gives more than "a pass" for me but credit for pulling it off. Can't think or another artist that has done anything even close to this in scale or sophistication, ever. I don't know. To me the scaled of it just seems odd. For a 'street artist' it's just bizarre. He goes from pulling off a stencil in New York City to opening a theme park. Yeah that's pretty crazy but for banksy to be the one doing it seems odd. I think the scale is a nod to not just his relevance on a mass scale now, but his ability to go wider and feature additional artists. This is as much a group show as it is a Banksy show.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Happy Shopper on Aug 24, 2015 13:37:40 GMT 1, I'm hoping to travel down next week with the family, if I rock up at around 11 (hopefully with tickets) anyone know how long average waiting time is? Just that a 2 year old really doesn't want to stand still for 3 minutes let alone 3 hours. Or know whether I could wait and my little one join me when I get near front? Cheers The last 2 days have been easy but it might not be like that once the tickets are for sale on the website... starting tomorrow. If those sell out, then you may have a longer queue for the tickets they release on the day and be waiting for people to leave before you can go in. Try and buy tickets if you can, then you're guaranteed entry and a shorter wait.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 10th Mountain on Aug 24, 2015 14:14:31 GMT 1, By now I think they could have done without the online tickets. Unless I can score a bunch for different timeslots without a problem, then it's ok.. I would be happier turning up and queueing rather than get an online ticket. It depends how many will be available on the day. Also easier to plan ahead. Seems like the last few days have been good to get in.I hope the online ticket thing is a part of the Dismal experience

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 11 on Aug 24, 2015 14:22:18 GMT 1, I actually stayed in a very nice B&B that was a 3 minute walk away.
It was called the Beverley, very nice clean roms and fantastic breakfast. The showers wasn't the best in the world but I've had many that were far worse. The owners were great and very accommodating.
If you wander down the road dead opposite Dismaland - literally dead opposit the entrance. My hotel was the second road on the left down there. To the right was a newsagents and a few other shops.
If you stay in the 'resort' part of WSM then you are looking at 15-20 min walk so definitely worth checking out
And they really would appreciate the custom as being away from the main road they are already being by-passed as people are drawn to the sparkly lights of the main town
And great little newsagents with tea rooms out the back

Having now had the pleasure of meeting you this doesn't surprise me one little bit. Surprised they weren't watching out for you on the outskirts of the town
How are you sir, recovered yet ?

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 11 on Aug 24, 2015 14:48:26 GMT 1, I'm only just beginning to get over the spectacle and experience of the whole event and beginning to think about the art.
I think some real thought provoking pieces and the selection of artists was clearly well thought out.
There were one or two that didn't really seem to fit - I can understand why they might have been included but the work offered was a little bemusing. Josh Keyes was one that I just didn't feel integrated with the rest of the show very well and to have one OG and then a load of prints was (for me) a wierd decision. Surely this show more than any other would have inspired the artists to put forward some real challenging and thought provoking pieces
Yes is it was nice to see AP's of some of his prints but felt it was very lazy and a wasted opportunity not to pull out some top drawer pieces and really use his style to emphasise the decay and neglect of our environments and cultures

"I am still in shock and ever grateful to have been invited to participate in Banksy's new spectacle/art extravaganza extraordinaire, "Dismaland". Whoever Banksy is, he/she they have been an enormous influence on my work over the years, and in my view has given the art world a well deserved goosing! Banksy, if you happen to read this thank you so much! I am so glad you like my work! PS Had I know you were doing a Dinsney themed show I would have offered you my latest painting featuring a dystopian Disney World."

The above statement shows he didnt know much, but also this thing was only beginning to be planned in January. Who knows when he was contacted, many of these pieces from all of the artists I have seen before, meaning they may have pulled from collectors, or galleries.
Usually artists are contacted to prepare for exhibitions over a year in advance.

Plus in another post, he reached out to Banksy, saying he would have lent his more current work (A Whole New World) should he have known the overall theme.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 11 on Aug 24, 2015 15:08:59 GMT 1, Maybe I'm assuming that he had more notice than he did - but even with very short notice it wouldn't be difficult to locate some key pieces from his major collectors
Its been suggested that the US based artists (or maybe Non-UK artists) were more aware of what they were to be involved in as there were instances of artists cancelling or declining other opportunities as they were to be part of a major event in the UK
And if someone like me knew that Mr B was curating a show over 3 months ago (point being I'm a nobody) I find it remarkable that mainstream artists wouldn't have had at least an inkling of what they were going to be involved in

Seems odd he didn't offer recent work to the show anyway. Or at least send them pics and ask what they wanted!? I don't think he thought about it until too late.

I assumed Banksy's intension was to slightly take the piss, but also encourage people to spend some cash in quite a run down area... but actually it's really nice !!

We all commented that we expected to see a complete shit-hole but it is a very nice sea-side town.
The lack of tourism and revenues is having some drastic effects and the town is definitely on the decline but the architecture, scenery and facilities were all great - the bars after a certain hour became a little 'edgy' but on the whole came away feeling a little nostalgic for all those sea-side places visited as a child
I should have bought a stick of rock and a kiss me quick hat to complete the experience

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by European Bob on Aug 24, 2015 15:42:35 GMT 1, I had a chat with Scott Hove, Lovely chap. His works were visually stunning and something I have not seen before. He mentioned that he was contacted and produced the pieces in five weeks; which were also the largest pieces he has produced in such a short time scale! so this may give you an insight as to how notice artists were given.

They're sold out already... Unless they have a few aside for an online drop. I missed out. It would be interesting if they treat this like a Santa's Ghetto.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by DrWhite on Aug 24, 2015 16:36:22 GMT 1, I was in trouble before I got thru security Having now had the pleasure of meeting you this doesn't surprise me one little bit. Surprised they weren't watching out for you on the outskirts of the town How are you sir, recovered yet ?
Hey hey - had a ball !! Great meeting you mate & other forum members ! The local police were definately briefed !! I got this on my way to the show
I think I made quite the impression - I've forgotten a lot of members that I met ! Until they messaged me to enquire about my hangover !! It lasted 2 days Planning a return trip - no doubt it will be another epic adventure
