BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Finsbury on Aug 29, 2015 22:08:03 GMT 1, Last night was fooooookin incredible...Looking at the various pics taken i was easily fooled into thinking there wasn't a huge amount and we might struggle to fill our time between 7-1am. How wrong we were, even in that time we managed to miss the gallery and the caravan. Mind you Mos def and DJ Yoda played their part in all the shenanigans! Yoda was amazing - I've never seen a DJ set like it (prob out of touch these days) but to see a set played both by sound and video was mental?! Scratching vinyl but also scratches the video at the same time! wow. We took our two boys though and they both thought it was amazing, young (and old) minds were fully opened, engaged and many questions asked as soon as we got through the doors, no 'hurry up we wanna go' malarky which for them is a first! This was and will be the best Amusement park we ever see. Hence we're going back again on Friday! RIP Xbox.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by cocos on Aug 29, 2015 22:44:39 GMT 1, Hi,
I have tickets for 7pm tomorrow night. Do you still need to queue and if so how long should I allow? Sorry if this has already been discussed - I've just trawled through pages of posts but can't find anything about queueing times for allocated tickets.
Can't bloody wait!
Cheers,
Cocos

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Cornish Crayon on Aug 30, 2015 9:51:27 GMT 1, Kids at dismaland
It's been rolling around in my head since we visited dismaland due to one or two moments witnessed on the opening day, now these thoughts fill me with some kind of elation happiness and I guess a sense of learning topical pride, power ...... I'm not sure how to word it......
I guess sitting there watching the giraffes diving and noticing the younger kids being hypnotised by the whole spectacle followed by the more poignant films based around age, day to day life, love and power, with the soundtracks drawing us all in with laughter smiles and more thought provoking pieces, the younger children seemed more than happy to watch not knowing what was coming next regardless of the unsuspecting use of language, I overheard a couple say it's good for kids to be exposed to this kind of stuff, I actually agree.... In moderation...... But I'm not sure if that stands if you don't know what's coming next ?
Now it's in a controlled environment and it wasn't all about the videos, but based on some of the things on show and with the added excitement of trying to win something during an impossible task there was a real mix up of thought provoking pieces, covered or hidden behind fun and excitement.
We don't have a kiddie (yet) but I guess my thought is, who has taken a youngster (under 16) and what kind of reaction have you had from them, did you regret exposing them to the show or was it not as bad as you thought
I'm probably rambling, but I think you get where I'm coming from.......
Please discuss

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by dodsi on Aug 30, 2015 13:04:02 GMT 1, Having been through this experience I thought I would share the do's and don't of this.
My experience is of the Friday night music night. Incase normal entry is different.
I purchased some tickets from a forum member and at the gate they scanned the tickets and looked for a name on their intermec type device. My name was obviously not in the system due to not being the person who booked. Luckily I knew the members name and explained how I got the tickets and the girl selected that name on the device and allowed me and my wife through. She did say we were lucky as she had turned people away that day!
So if you are swapping tickets or buying secondary from a trusted source just give the purchasers name to prevent possibly being denied entry.
Just a piece of advice for anyone doing the same.
Enjoy!

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Lroy on Aug 30, 2015 13:42:06 GMT 1, Well I trekked from LA and was well worth it so a few connecting trains from London is absolutely worth it. Damn, quite the trek! Feel free to tell that to anyone who claims you're not a real fan. Like going to Australia for a concert. Hi ( all said with sympathy ),
What does a " real fan " mean ? You can be in jail or at the hospital and still being a real fan, no ? You can have also family problems, bills ( as all of us, I conceed ) little and basic salary ( hopefully internet is not only fro rich people ;-) , beginning to be really a bit old, shy, tired, and sick, etc etc... and to be a real fan too... In secret
I like art, I like Banksy, it is the only thing interesting now ( apart some contemprorary artists : thanks to him, to help us to make a choice in Dismaland, thanks to him for the price of the entrance too ! ) in life, with kids, of course ! There was punk, but punk alreday dies...
I am afraid to take a plane , I have never took a plane, I could not go ther by Hitchhiking - I have done this for thousands of kilometers when I was 15 and 30 ( I even was going to job by Hitchhiking during a time ) and nobody will take in his car the old perv' that I am , lol ! And there is the channel to cross also, and I even don't know how to swim...
Well, all this to say, that it is not so easy for a real fan to make his dream at 56 ! Apart, of course, if you have money and if you can manage ( I even did not speak about prints nor about K ;-)
Thank you for your understanding my friend ( no I am not a crying baby, just saying that maybe that there is real fans, no me, that wanted to go there - even in UK - and that can't go ) ...
( I will try anyway, I will try... and If I am still " in "or " on ", and not " off "... ;-) , 3 weeks to go - peace ) I would like to thank a lot of you, members here or on another place ( forum , facebook etc... ) , English, I mean UK, US , Nl. , S., D., F., etc... are awesome ! Lovers of art are beautiful ! These places to discuss are great too. Thanks !

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by mojo on Aug 30, 2015 14:51:40 GMT 1, Went am & pm on Friday and Saturday am and loved it. Great to see some old friends and meet some new ones too. Thought the whole concept was incredible. From the second I entered Dismaland I was utterly entertained, firstly by the brilliance of the staff..... I initially had my smile confiscated and Friday night it took me five minutes to actually get in as security shouted instructions to look sad look disgusted look melancholy and I had to change my expression each time and hold it till they said so. Loved seeing the grim reaper dodgem, the castle was spectacular along with the police slide and disfigured Arial. Mickey Mouse eaten by a snake made me smile as did Wasted Rita's words of wisdom and Pins and Baste's Crackney puppet show. Sitting on a deckchair watching Punch beat up Judy in the sunshine was surprisingly pleasant. I even 'won' a picture of a fish finger in a plastic bag at hook a mucky duck ...... fair & square too! Never toppled the anvil with the ping pong balls although got a Shrigley meaningless rubber bracelet ....thrown on the ground by the staff for me to pick up. Jimmy Cauty is a national treasure and must have the patience of a saint The Aftermath Displacement Principal is mind blowing. Found the Museum of Cruel Objects, Guerilla Island and The Comrades Advice Bureau very enlightening. Spent my pocket money in Payday Loans 4 kids.....skint now! I found the big wheel and the refugee's boat game very uncomfortable, the big wheel cause I remembered I didn't like heights while I was on it and the refugee boat game cause human beings having to escape war risking their lives in shitty boats that are likely to sink is inhumane, unethical and frankly the worst reflection of human cruelty since the holocaust. Instead of throwing enormous amounts of cash to build barriers to keep them out perhaps our so called leaders might consider rescuing them and giving them shelter and while they're at it stop calling these people migrants they are refugee's ... there is a vast difference. ........... and I wish unicorns were real too.
Dancing under the gaze of a smug self satisfied over privileged t**t resulted in a great Friday night ....... no I don't mean DJ Yoda, Peanut Butter Wolf or Breakbeat Lou they were super cool ....... and wow I actually went weak at the knee's when Mos Def appeared. He certainly satisfied my cuteness quota for this show.........sweet stakes he's most definitely a winner.
If you haven't been yet go and if you have here's a little tune to remind you.
VIVA BANKSY

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by lee3 on Aug 30, 2015 17:30:49 GMT 1, >>>who has taken a youngster (under 16) and what kind of reaction have you had from them, did you regret exposing them to the show or was it not as bad as you thought <<<
I was far more worried they wouldn't get in as opposed to worrying about what effect this show would have on them. Then again, this is as close as I plan on taking them to any theme park for the rest of their lives too. I took in the whole thing as beautiful and funny as opposed to sad and dreary however so I suppose it depends on a parent's point of view. About the only thing that would have made me reconsider was if it was truly scary in the sense that people were jumping out from around corners and terrifying them which might result in nightmares (my boys are ages 8 & 5 fwiw). The only thing we prepped them on was the interaction with the staff so they didn't take anything personally and they had smiles galore trying to get a response from many different employees.
All said and done, they loved it and they continue to remind us that they were angry that a sitter had to pick them up at 8pm (they got in around 5) rather then remain with us until closing. We live seemingly half a world away in san francisco and they've been wearing their dismal Ts with pride to school and keep telling me stories of teachers and parents asking them if they went and what their thoughts were. I wore mine the other night to terrapin crossroads and was dumbfounded at how many people asked me about the show and thumbs up here and there. That was fun to relive and tell complete strangers. You don't get too many chances to take the young ones to something that hits you really good as an adult so why not?
I find both of these to be hilarious but i'm probably the juvenile and immature side of an adult far too often, ymmv. This was about the worst they encountered (apart from explaining the princess i suppose) and both are completely harmless and bring a smile to my face. There are tons more of them staring inquisitively at various paintings and installations and that's kind of what it's all about:
