BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by leecd on Aug 30, 2015 18:41:09 GMT 1, I went again last night being lucky enough to live close by and really enjoyed seeing Dismaland in the dark, really added to the dismal atmosphere. Once again got into the ticket qeue an hour before opening and really appreciated looking round for the first hour whilst it was quieter inside.
Best part of the night was winning some bling, after working out how it's done! The only thing now I need to complete my collection is a balloon as they would only sell them to children due to in their words concerns that it will be put on flea bay. I will not be doing this of course and if anyone could help me out with a balloon to complete the collection please pm me.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by pippyt75 on Aug 30, 2015 18:48:36 GMT 1, If like me one of your favourite paintings at the show was Internacional by Paco Pomet then you can buy the print here - www.cmwalter.com/cmw-edicion/serigrafias/
Little gallery in Spain. Just send email to Christian if you fancy one. No vested interest btw just thought its was a stunning piece!
Cheers!

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by coller on Aug 30, 2015 18:52:44 GMT 1, Damn, quite the trek! Feel free to tell that to anyone who claims you're not a real fan. Like going to Australia for a concert. Hi ( all said with sympathy ), What does a " real fan " mean ? You can be in jail or at the hospital and still being a real fan, no ? You can have also family problems, bills ( as all of us, I conceed ) little and basic salary ( hopefully internet is not only fro rich people ;-) , beginning to be really a bit old, shy, tired, and sick, etc etc... and to be a real fan too... In secret I like art, I like Banksy, it is the only thing interesting now ( apart some contemprorary artists : thanks to him, to help us to make a choice in Dismaland, thanks to him for the price of the entrance too ! ) in life, with kids, of course ! There was punk, but punk alreday dies... I am afraid to take a plane , I have never took a plane, I could not go ther by Hitchhiking - I have done this for thousands of kilometers when I was 15 and 30 ( I even was going to job by Hitchhiking during a time ) and nobody will take in his car the old perv' that I am , lol ! And there is the channel to cross also, and I even don't know how to swim... Well, all this to say, that it is not so easy for a real fan to make his dream at 56 ! Apart, of course, if you have money and if you can manage ( I even did not speak about prints nor about K ;-) Thank you for your understanding my friend ( no I am not a crying baby, just saying that maybe that there is real fans, no me, that wanted to go there - even in UK - and that can't go ) ... ( I will try anyway, I will try... and If I am still " in "or " on ", and not " off "... ;-) , 3 weeks to go - peace ) I would like to thank a lot of you, members here or on another place ( forum , facebook etc... ) , English, I mean UK, US , Nl. , S., D., F., etc... are awesome ! Lovers of art are beautiful ! These places to discuss are great too. Thanks ! Not sure how to respond to this one.
Not going to Dismaland doesn't make you a fake fan, especially if you can't afford it or have other issues traveling. That would be crazy. I personally don't think I'm going to be able to make it because of finances and work obligations, although still trying.
I just meant that travelling halfway across the world to see a Banksy show is a pretty good testament that you're a true fan; hard for someone to deny that after you've made the trip.

Getting a balloon was difficult. I had to get one of the gift shop employees to help. Promised I wouldn't eBay it. Explained I travelled from a Dubai just for the show. Ultimately was able to get one then the challenge was not bringing attention to myself carrying a big I am an imbecile balloon around. Tried to deflate it at the show with no luck. Only able to when back at the room so I could pack it for the flight. Happy to have it's a memento from a once in s lifetime experience.

I'm glad you had a fun time. Strange new rule with the balloons. I think someone said the other day that they had briefly stopped selling them because they were ending up on eBay. EVERYTHING's ending up on eBay. Making it harder to buy one from the park will probably just increase the demand for the ones on eBay. But it's their park, their rules I suppose.
If you pop back, just pay a kid to get you a balloon. Kinda like the reverse of when kids approach adults and ask them to buy cigarettes or alcohol for them.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by d.r. perseus on Aug 30, 2015 19:40:36 GMT 1, Im curious lee3... you took your kids to the other side of the world (which is awesome), and as describe, "this is as close as I plan on taking them to any theme park for the rest of their lives too"..
and then only let them hang out for three hours in Dismaland?
Whats the deal with pretty much all of that? just curious.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Aug 30, 2015 19:42:42 GMT 1, The balloon's "imbecile" message works best when an adult is holding one. Maybe they could just limit them to one per person? If someone's trying to buy ten, chances are they're going on eBay. That or they're supplying their forum friends.
Anyway, it can't be that difficult for a grown man to go to a play park, approach someone else's children and proposition them.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by coller on Aug 30, 2015 20:02:10 GMT 1, They should just announce that they'll be selling all the merch on their site in unlimited quantities after park closes. That way those who grab them from the park still feel special, and it stops most from flipping. I agree that not selling things to adults b/c they think they will resell them will only increase the ebay shenanigans.
Also seems like an easy way for Banksy to make a cool million from selling open edition t-shirts and balloons; can help fund more projects like Dismaland.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Aug 30, 2015 20:05:54 GMT 1, Nobody wants to see adults dragging their kids to a theme park (in school time too), so they can purchase balloons that the parents can then put on eBay.
I'm still convinced they're going to have an online shop at some point. Perhaps once the park is closed, to sell off the leftover stock.
Secretly I'm hoping for a massive carboot sale the day after the park closes.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Lroy on Aug 30, 2015 20:11:24 GMT 1, Not one, but some since the morning... lol
I can't say anything about the trip.. I am in a weird and a bit " dangerous" situation, I put myself in a wrong way ( hope that it will be fine ) , with maybe will have big prob' ...
Well, I dont' want to be a time waster, and to say : " I will come and I don't come " , etc.. I have enough sympathy messages or propositions ( the problem is that I am shy and scrupulous ) that make that These fora are great, with amazing gents from Albion ! Real help and friendship ! From all the nations even ! Really lovely !
I prefer ( for now - pm is existing in case of ) to say " no " at the moment.. But who knows...
Transport is really a problem too : I am incapable ( unable ? ) to take a plane for the first time at my age ! I don't want to make it crash before Dover, lol ! Well, once upon a time, I tell my life, sorry folks !
ps : I could have already an adress in Bristol in a flat, with a mate form FCBK... That wanht he told me...
In fact, I am thinking at the moment , and elaborate plans... on the comets maybe !
cheers ! and Love !

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by lee3 on Aug 30, 2015 20:12:34 GMT 1, Im curious lee3... you took your kids to the other side of the world (which is awesome), and as describe, "this is as close as I plan on taking them to any theme park for the rest of their lives too".. and then only let them hang out for three hours in Dismaland? Whats the deal with pretty much all of that? just curious. My wife and I are simply not the amusement park type. We went along for a day to lego land with extended family a number of months ago and all 4 of us loathed it for the typical reasons which is not to suggest anything wrong with those who loves those scenes as do many of my friends/family. I just prefer to go to a location and hang. Prior to kids, my wife and I were very active scuba divers and went to uninhabited corners of the planet to see the best fish in their symbiotic environment which to my eyes is way better than any universal or disney land type thing. So when this opportunity presented itself to go to Dismal, we decided to bring the kids along chevy chase style and hit paris, london and bristol.
I should be clear that I don't consider Dismaland an amusement park but rather the art event that it is which happens to play towards my bias of those parks so it was right up my alley. But, this was a trip for my wife and I first and we had about a week to plan in advance and decided midway through that week to bring the children. Never had any intention of bringing them to the preview neither were they invited so that was out from the beginning. Then the next day, we just decided to head over with the kids in tow and get in line. We were fortunate to get in but we had a sitter planned for the 3 nights that we were in Bristol so we could do stuff with the children by day and focus on the show and other friends by night. Plus we were ambitious to no end in Paris and the kids were exhausted from walking. I suppose that is the long winded answer and way more color than you were looking for. I had no intention of taking a 5 year old on a 11 hour flight for 10 days until one month ago. In hindsight, it was an amazing experience for us all with the higher highs and lower lows typical of parenthood.
Bottom line is after a few shows over the past decade, I'm of the opinion that a Banksy show is not to be missed and have come to expect the best experience from him for the visual arts. Up until seeing this show, I didn't expect anything to exceed Bristol of 6 years ago and am delighted to admit I was wrong as Dismaland is even better. Now, I'm happy to pass along that bias to my children.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by FЯ on Aug 30, 2015 20:49:53 GMT 1, So... I went down today. Without boring anyone - quick thoughts in bullet points:
- f**k you the woman who used the 'my son is disabled' line, once she realised she had to stand and wait even though she had a ticket. Not sounding harsh, but having a non debilitating disability (name one of them) is not an excuse to skip a line. The poor security guard got put right on the spot. Saying it at the top of your voice as well because your angry. Seriously. Then afterwards i saw the kids skipping around the park.
- i heard a little kid asking his mum if cinderella was dead repeatedly through that exhbit. It was very uneasy and really not for kids younger than 10.
- the best bit of the whole place is the reaper and the art exhibit.
- the paco pomet and banksy originals are stunning. The Tsunami canvas is 1 storey tall. Quite amazing.
- they need to get some air flow going in their, you will sweat your balls silly. I partly blame the floating ball which is pumping out heat.
- i dont believe in blowing smoke up asses, some of the park was a little boring. i could not see why some would spend more than 2 hours there. I am inclined to agree with Daniel Silk previous comments with some things now i have been.
- the james cauty miniature is breath taking but was disappointed that half of it was desert. Bit of a cop out there. (Excuse the pun)
- the staff are amazing, particularly those at the hook a duck
- dont queue for anything, they die down in stages. People love to queue, dont get sucked in.
- dont shoot the tins on the bling stand, shoot the staff
- regarding balloons, they had them there today. Got one by telling the holder other half was 14. She even raised a smile. (The staff).
- in the shop at the end keep an eye on the little boy (literally) rolling the posters. Lets just say he is not exactly careful with the corners. Told him twice to do it again.
- dont eat fish and chips in weston, like many uk seaside towns, the fish and chip shops are really awful. They are lazy because they are next to the sea and always get trade.
- infact just go to dismaland and get the hell out of there. I saw an 80 year old on a mobility scooter supping a can of stella driving along.
- there is a vip room upstairs and the artist proofs are very real.
- like many i took lots of pictures but its the hidden things that impressed me more, like this:
