BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by FЯ on Aug 30, 2015 23:37:15 GMT 1, That's right. I don't think anyone should begrudge a disabled child going to the front a a queue. There are plenty of disabilities that are not obvious. A wheelchair is not a pre requisite! Thank you Coach as usual this board is awash with deafening silence when a person in a position of authority shows a bigoted selfish attitude Not really, on the other side people get overly offended these days at everything. you were not there so you cannot judge the situation. infact you probably would have thought exactly the same thing but would have been afraid to say anything due to my first point above.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by floubi on Aug 30, 2015 23:41:55 GMT 1, In the spirit of community, I am heading over to dismaland tomorrow evening so am offering up for anybody who cannot make it the opportunity to grab some merchandise should they want it and cannot make the show for whatever reason. Obviously, all will be at cost plus postage if required - even willing to send internationally. Pm me with requests and once I have as many 'orders' as I can reasonably fulfill I will post here again to say I won't take more. I just found this thread, what a great gesture!! I know I'm arriving after the battle (as we say in France) but I would love a ballon if you have one left thanks!

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by mojo on Aug 30, 2015 23:42:50 GMT 1, - dont eat fish and chips in weston, like many uk seaside towns, the fish and chip shops are really awful. They are lazy because they are next to the sea and always get trade. Have to disagree about the fish and chips. Was recommended to hit Papas from several locals and it was great. Large quality piece of fish and fantastic batter flavor. Even went back for a second before I left. We went there too ..... delicious, possibly the best fish & chips I've ever eaten. I didn't really want to reply to the OP's comments as I found many of them cruel and bigoted, glad he got a balloon though. And always good to know him and Silky thought Dismaland was over rated and a bit boring.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Aug 30, 2015 23:48:24 GMT 1, Personally I think that the disabled can go right to the front of any queue. And in my experience, if the child isn't disabled, then they aren't going to appreciate their parent referring to them as such, so it's unlikely they'd claim their child is disabled just to jump a queue.
And yes, you can be disabled and not require a wheelchair or even have any outwardly obvious symptoms.
Actually, this reminds me of my friend with Cerebral Palsy. He can walk and stand fine, but he's a bit of an F1 fan and will always turn up at circuits in his wheelchair so he can get to meet the drivers, etc.
While we're on the subject of disabilities, there were a quite a few handicapped and wheelchair-using visitors on the day that I went. While a few areas were difficult to access, I was impressed to see how many had come to enjoy themselves and appreciate the artwork and events.

there was an amazing old lady in a wheel chair who had been waiting for 6 hours in the ticketless queue. It was soaking as well. Was she complaining? Nope.

Wonder how dismaland would play out if in America

Well said. As for the bit about getting out of Weston as soon as you can I couldn't disagree more. Yes it's seen better days but at least stay around for a while and perhaps give the local economy a bit of a boost. Bare Grills restaurant is worth a visit.

Everyone was entertained and happy, nothing to be disappointed by.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Aug 31, 2015 0:13:25 GMT 1, While queuing to get in, I heard a woman say to her husband "There are an awful lot of Polish in the queue. Shouldn't they be at work?". I heard one dad telling (I assume) his son (who was playing the boat game) "They should give you water cannons so you can sink the migrants". I heard a guy that was staring at a gull perched on the wall by the VIP room, within 10 feet of the Escif gull painting, say to another guy "Shame I ain't got a baseball bat". Then in the guerrilla gallery tent, I had the pleasure of seeing a guy laugh at and take the piss out of the children of Gaza banner. That one really got to me.
I called so many people cocks that day, the staff must have thought I had tourettes.
You have to wonder if the messages and themes of Dismaland are utterly wasted on some people.
I loved the day and I'll never forget it. Met some lovely people, saw some brilliant art. But there are some really s**tty people out there. But, BUT, I guess it's those people and their children that should be exposed to some of the subject matter in the park. Maybe it can change things for the better.
I heard some parents talking with their children about the art and what some of it meant. Others just glossed over it. Can't fix everything, but I appreciate that the artists are trying to make things better.

Reminded me on a smaller scale of Blackpool , the seaside shops and the beach , I had a wander around the pier and around the market and the lanes with a lot of stencils dotted around to find , found a local bakery and bought a marmite loaf , even found a Marks and Sparks , A lot of charity shops in the town , and if it wasn't for the show I would not go out of my way to visit Weston but ended up having a good day sightseeing a little bit more .
By the pier they rent out mobility scooters by the hour , for those that hate queuing :-) ( jumping the queue in jest before a rant appears)

That's the norm for the UK no? Yup. Good people, bad people, some complaining, some laughter, a seagull and a queue.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Forbidden Love on Aug 31, 2015 0:32:10 GMT 1, Went again yesterday. Filmed a great video of a woman going mental at the balloon lady because she wouldn't sell her a balloon. To the point where she tried to grab the balloon off her. It was terrible First shout for an upload of the video ;-) As time goes on can see some funny interactions between the public and the staff , not everyone seems to get the dry humour . Wonder how dismaland would play out if in America
Lol I'll try to upload it during the week when I'm back at the computer.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Aug 31, 2015 0:32:22 GMT 1, The balloon's "imbecile" message works best when an adult is holding one. Maybe they could just limit them to one per person? If someone's trying to buy ten, chances are they're going on eBay. That or they're supplying their forum friends. Anyway, it can't be that difficult for a grown man to go to a play park, approach someone else's children and proposition them. Sweet Jesus, Dungle, you're handsome.

It was terrible Wow that sounds ace thank god you were there to diffuse it all by recording it
A woman eventually tried to step into to calm her down but the angry lady then turned at her and started yelling in her face. I did notify a guard at this point because the staff was almost being harassed. I'll try and see if I can get it uploaded during the week. Will be funny to watch it over again

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by lee3 on Aug 31, 2015 0:35:33 GMT 1, Only after I was back in London did I have the revelation that the instructions do not say how to tip the anvil just to TIP IT. handing you the ping pong balls is the rub. Had scenarios in my head of hopping over, pushing one off the stand and either being escorted out of the park or to a back room and handed a signed GWB. Pretty sure no one has tried this yet. A signed GWB! LOL! I think you have to carry the anvil home. No danger of eBaying that. That's exactly right, if you win you get to carry the anvil home. Either way you're screwed and you have the pleasure of paying for it. It's brilliant in its simplicity and a perfect reflection of many scenarios in life, ESPECIALLY at a theme park. Someone else mentioned life imitating art which i've continued to reflect on and think it's simply art imitating life. I love it.
