BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by smishdown on Sept 1, 2015 10:51:40 GMT 1, Had an awsome day yesterday and hats off to all the staff, they were brilliant and definatley made it an experience I won't forget. Especially on hook the duck stall, after strangling the duck twice with the rope they gave in and gave me a fish finger (thrown on the floor) by that time I had an audience and the whole thing seemed to be a theatrical piece. Me an my missus won some bling (little tip: don't shoot the cans, actually shoot the bling off the cans or shelf, there's normally only a couple of pieces to get so pick wisely) Managed to get a ballon for my 2 year old which he loved. Stand out piece for me was James cauty's miniature model, felt rushed around it though which was a shame. I'm sure there is loads I missed as a 2 year old and queues don't go together but had a great day. Highly recommended.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Deleted on Sept 1, 2015 11:13:30 GMT 1, 'Fish finger thrown on the floor', likin' that.
Other Ducks are available elsewhere (though maybe not one's being killed and/or poisoned by oil slicks and other unnatural chemical pollution...poor Ducks).

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Agent Provocateur on Sept 1, 2015 11:49:20 GMT 1, Got a balloon early on but it came off the string and soared away over the beach. Haha. After the first lot the guy selling said for sale to children only. He even said no to some young teenagers. I still have the string though obviously.... Is it just me picturing the image of a dark and disturbing girl guy with balloon scene reenactment!?
An AP version of course as it was a black balloon.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by oldschoolbmx on Sept 1, 2015 12:34:12 GMT 1, Went Sun night and Mon morning with my 6yr old son. Loved it. The gallery space being the highlight for me.And the lad working on the golf. One thing that has stuck with me is the atmosphere there. So strange, dismal yet people having a good time. Now I have a confession so here seems a good place. I may have gone a bit far on the duck in the muck stall. Got there and got told off for winding the string round (although half was already done) got close a couple of times and she kept knocking it over all light hearted. Now this is the bad bit. As she kept knocking em over I grabbed a bag when she wasn't looking. Only when my lad mentioned it she noticed it. This is when she said shall I call security I realised she wasn't messing about anymore. wtf I felt so ashamed I was basically stealing in front of my son. For what a bit of cardboard in a bag. It's the memory I have of the place now. On the upside my lad won some bling. Oh and go up to the bar and operate the puppets. Just don't get carried away on duck in the muck. I feel better now I've confessed! And if the girl operating the stall reads this. Sorry.

Don't beat yourself up over it too much. We're all capable of making mistakes or errors of judgement from time to time. It's easy to get caught up in the atmosphere of Dismaland, and probably not helped by the staff cheating you (in a friendly manner) at every turn.
The main thing is, your child appears to know right from wrong and you didn't compound your momentary mistake by trying to outrun security.
They say that confession is good for the soul though. So your feelings of guilt and subsequent honesty on here should be recognised and serve as a lesson for all of us, should we also find ourselves tempted to grab a cardboard fishfinger one day.
I think of Dismaland as a bit like that island from Lost. We're all drawn to it, challenged by it, face many perils, strange animals, dangerous terrain, some of us leave and then return, some may be killed by a smoke monster, but mostly I think that it has lessons for all of us. It can educate us and make us examine both ourselves and the world around us. You'll learn from this experience and move on from it.
Say 12 hail Marys and count your blessings.

Ha thank you Father. My lad didn't want to go near the duck stall all night after that. Also yesterday he wanted to have a go on the ahem radio control boats. He had no idea about what they represented. Although I did explain to him about it, and Nuclear Bombs, and Tsunamis! His fav the Grim Reaper. Was disappointed it was out of action Mon morning.
Going back this weekend with my wife. Got a feeling the staff might be a bit more sweary. ?

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by oldschoolbmx on Sept 1, 2015 15:27:17 GMT 1, Pop into Bristol too if you get a chance. Plenty of Postcard packs from his show in the museum shop. And the oxfam across the rd were selling some Greenpeace Beat Delete stickers. Ltd to 2 per person. And loads of great art to be seen around. Stumbled on a great Connor Harrington piece.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Just on Sept 1, 2015 16:14:24 GMT 1, Soo worth the flight from dubai. Managed to go at 11am and 7pm. I was smiling like a Cheshire cat (which I think defeats the purpose, but I was so darn happy to be there and can freely admit I'm definitely not one of the cool kids). I wore a huge Happy gold necklace and was interrogated on entry asking me what it was. I just told them it was rebellion ;-)
I'm glad I went back in the evening as I had missed a few pieces ie hummingbird (to the left of the big wave picture above the fireplace). The sunset really caught the big rig jig and the scaffolding horse really well.
Staff really made it and the music and the proannouncements gave it a very surreal vibe.
The astronauts caravan is genius - really messes with yr mind and I could have spent hours around the model town. The things I enjoyed were to numerous to mention.
I left with even more smiles, a bit of shopping, my beloved balloon and a fish finger in a bag. As I said I ain't cool, but it definitely made me happy :-D.
I stayed in WSM and very happily ate fish n chips, staying in a hotel opposite the sea and searching out JPS and Fawn pieces around the town. Definitely go and support the local economy as they've embraced their own artists and were totally proud of this event. Even saw the council spraying banksy stencils with arrow directions from the train station (irony not lost on me).
If I had more days off in sept I'd fly back again in a heartbeat! (Still trying to wangle that one). Maybe it's greedy, maybe it's wishful thinking, but a girl can dream...
Question - when the live acts are on, where do they perform from? Trying to visualise that.
Thx to the forum members for welcoming us newbies and keeping us informed and amused through the whole experience. Could waste days on here lol

I'm glad you had a good time. Well done on acquiring that elusive balloon. Achievement unlocked (as the kids say).
I'm not certain, but I think the acts perform on the stage by the hook-a-duck.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 10th Mountain on Sept 1, 2015 16:52:51 GMT 1, It was a lovely Bank Holiday Monday for me. Amazed that we were in the queue for the Pocket Money Loans, chatting to the family behind us, saying that my friends daughter looked too old to get a balloon. Only to be greeted with "well we don't want one, you can borrow my children", and off they trotted to return with said balloons. I think the atmosphere must bring the opressed together, either that, or maybe, they did not want them back. I also sold a spare ticket to someone in the ticket queue, who turned out to be from Norway, flew in, just for that. Made my stint from SE London seem feeble. Hopefully I will return at night

Hopefully I will return at night how long did it take you to get there from SE London if you don't mind me asking? It took me about 3 hrs 15m to get there and about 4 hours to get back in Bank Holiday Traffic on the M4. Worth every Dismal Minute, the journey was definately more dismal than the park. Parked easily enough and walked about 10 minutes. I would advise that getting there an hour early gets you first dibs when you get in, but after that it equals out. I am hoiping to get tickets for a weekend in a couple of weeks, so I'll find out again
It was a lovely Bank Holiday Monday for me. BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by vacano on Sept 1, 2015 17:27:50 GMT 1, I also visited yesterday on the bank holiday. I was at the front row of 'dance of death' and now I know it's double meaning... I really wanted a balloon but when I eventually saw the guy with them, he said he was only selling them to children or adults with a child. I waited around for a few minutes and as he untangled one to sell, one fell out of his hands and started to fly away... the string was quite long so I was able to catch it! He turned around to me and I said "it's in my hand now... here is your £5". It was a moment of genius haha
