BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Schrödinger's Chat on Sept 1, 2015 21:36:17 GMT 1, Ah yes - now I remember, though I did miss the vending machine Does anyone have a link to the pic of that? I'll stick something on the spoiler thread when I get to WiFi.
On the spoiler thread now, sorry it's not a great video.
In all the Dismaland excitement I've earned my third star! Before this Dismaland thread I was only on about 13 posts.
I'm very excited because I believe once you have 3 stars your exempt from the unwritten rules around flipping of prints-am I wrong? (joke)
I will run a comp to celebrate over the next few days.

They have released another edition - of the type that are smaller and have a lip around them. Edition of 40 and they said they are selling 10 per day. I would expect another edition after that...
The shield looks like this (I think this is SRS-5) - obviously the smile and eye shapes differ between SRS editions

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dibbs 45 on Sept 1, 2015 22:17:37 GMT 1, I remember when these riots shields came out a few years ago. £195 or whatever they were. What difference a show makes to their popularity. Cauty's installation was a real highlight though to be fair.

Probably best to try to get a ticket. Shouldn't be too difficult. I'm hoping anyway.

£145 if I recall but that was a good few years ago....... Have to agree dibbs, the cauty piece was one of my top highlights, spent a good 45 mins in there, I did a few videos with the gopro on the stick so managed to stick it in over and above the whole set up

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 11 on Sept 1, 2015 23:08:01 GMT 1, Was just about to write war and peace about my last 2 days as it was very different, but thought I'd try and keep it to the point
Security is a little more thorough as they are pissed with people taking stickers and in slapping them about. Programmes and prints were sold-out completely - they will be getting more in 'soon' The prints that were previously being sold for £10 are now £20 There was another edition of the Cauty shield - ed. of 40 and only 10 sold per day, 1 per person. The wristbands were all gone - the guy didn't know when they would get more. The prices on the games had doubled to £2 There were only 3 ducks with hooks - the rest were small rubber ducklings so you have 7 or 8 rods going for 3 ducks. The Cinderella and Cauty rooms are much brighter (they were pitch black before) - i can only assume because people have obviously swiped pieces of the cauty and maybe tried to swipe pieces of the cinderella carriage The queues at 8pm (when we roughly walked in) were massive for everything, even things like pocket money loans, the banner tent and the cruelty bus....i mean massive The Pizza dudes have upped their game and turn an order around in about 25 mins - they don't talk about black Friday -_- The Grim Reaper was fooked - It gets 3/4 way through the Bee Gees and has a fit then limps off - happened every time i saw it last night and again today. They've added the snake swallowing mickey mouse to the main gallery - i don't know where it was before and placed a flying seagull above the seagull lady on the bench There was a falafel stall as well (at the night time but not in the day) - they looked very good but had already stocked up on pizza If you're going to get in at the start you need to queue about 60-90 mins before
The park got much quieter after about 9:30 at which point virtually all of the queues had gone and we could have a fantastic time taking in all the pieces, partaking on all of the rides and the main gallery was virtually empty. Making it a great opportunity to actually admire the art and take it in without people walking across you or being hurried along. I was one of the very last people in the gallery as they closed and it was a lovely experience to be able to walk around in peace, as though it was almost a private viewing just for oneself.
Went back today and got in the queue at about 9:45 and were in the first row. That was a good move as again, could go around and look at the bits I wanted to in relative peace. It takes a good hour before it reaches the tipping-point and queues start forming, I assume they also disappear again mid-afternoon but at there peak are a nightmare - worth factoring that into your plans
Edit : Haha - imagine what war an peace would have been !!

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 11 on Sept 1, 2015 23:09:50 GMT 1, So what's the deal if I turn up without tickets... Is it just a huge queue and hope to get in? definitely get a ticket - they turned 400 people away on Saturday and the queue for walk-ups today started before the main queue did. There were a good few hundred again and I do not think they let very many (if any in)

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 11 on Sept 1, 2015 23:23:08 GMT 1, I remember when these riots shields came out a few years ago. £195 or whatever they were. What difference a show makes to their popularity. Cauty's installation was a real highlight though to be fair. The Cauty piece has become a bit of a conveyor belt when viewing at the busy times and it was a bit annoying when trying to spot the various bits in the apartments when they go 'Guy in the Polo Shirt - keep moving - you're holding up the queue' and I'm yelling 'yes, trying to enjoy a piece of art, not a f**king model village' - this wasn't 'dismal', they were genuinely trying to shuffle people along which i didn't appreciate as you couldn't take it all in. I tried to go back round but told I had to go join the back of the queue.....walked out, no queue and walked straight back in again - smug as f**k!
That was the only time I've had issue with the attitudes as it wasn't so much dismal but much more disney

The staff were shouting for everyone to keep moving, people were bumping into each other in the dark, etc. Hard to enjoy what was probably the most complex and detailed piece in there when you're constantly being told to shuffle round.
Still a really impressive piece of work to look at. I could have spent hours in there.

And I see what you mean about the new batch of ducks they've put out.
I'm surprised they sold out of programmes. They must have got through tonnes of them. And I understand them raising their prices, considering a lot of this stuff is going on eBay and they might be trying to make the most of the inventory they have left. I wish I'd bought what I wanted while I was there the first time now though. I figured there'd be plenty left later. I didn't expect prices to increase though. Oh well.
Maybe instead of trying to get more Shrigley bracelets in, the prizes could be one of the Ping Pong balls? If you're reading this Dismaland, just a suggestion. Wait, so what's the consolation prize on the anvil game now then?

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Black Apple Art on Sept 2, 2015 0:01:51 GMT 1, I remember when these riots shields came out a few years ago. £195 or whatever they were. What difference a show makes to their popularity. Cauty's installation was a real highlight though to be fair. To be honest, while the riot shield concept is a good one, it's definitely being confused with being a Banksy piece and it's easy to see why with the use of the "happy face". Not to mention resellers really taking advantage of this with deceptive listings and plugging in authentic "Banksy" and "Dismaland" as much as possible in their listings and zero mention of Cauty. From a little research seems this is the 8th edition release of these shields and the 2nd at Dismaland alone. Nice show momento but personally I'll take the £5 program all day long over the shield. Fantastic program!

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by impromento on Sept 2, 2015 1:15:59 GMT 1, Well happy to say that i made it to the exhibition this evening with a ticket for the 21:00 entry. Walked straight in with no queuing, just a little difficulty getting through security with the smile I had on my face!
What a show….
Highlight had to be Cauty’s village for me – such an intricate, fascinating and surreal experience – when looking through the camera lens it was as if you were shooting the real deal…
I did feel slightly rushed though as others have mentioned, it’s a bit of a conveyor belt with shouts of “you don’t need to get that close!” clearly due to the opportunists looking for a souvenir just to flip when they get home.
I mentioned the other day that I was considering testing the Anvil theory… by jumping over and pushing the thing off its stand – I bottled it, instead throwing balls for what seemed like hours (for free I might add, which may be the consolation for not getting a band)
I did ask the girl about the rules though, and her response was “there aren’t any”
I asked, “so you just have to knock it off?” And she just said “yeah”
I just didn’t have the balls to try it!!!!!
I did manage to bag a fish finger, Juxtapoz, a couple of posters from the shop, some pretty cool Darren Cullen stuff and some bling (creatively) oh… and also the illusive balloon – thanks to my little girl xxx I did have to ask around A LOT to locate and then convince the gatekeeper, but with a face like that, who could say no!
I must point out that she is actually 2 today – and this was her way of thanking Daddy for all those presents…. Apologies if pic upload hasn't worked - im new to forums!
(I took a picture of my little one holding a sign asking for a balloon for her birthday - worked a treat!)
I found the staff to be brilliant. I tried to interact with them in a somewhat dismal manner at first which in fact felt father uncomfortable, so I just ended up being nice to them and it paid off – hence the bling - they are actually trying so hard to be dismal!
I was running around so much trying to see it all that I don’t feel I actually took the time to look at everything so thankfully I’m back here on Saturday.
Anyway – time to frame this balloon, box my goodies up and pop the fish finger in the freezer
Well happy to say that i made it to the exhibition this evening with a ticket for the 21:00 entry. Walked straight in with no queuing, just a little difficulty getting through security with the smile I had on my face! What a show…. Highlight had to be Cauty’s village for me – such an intricate, fascinating and surreal experience – when looking through the camera lens it was as if you were shooting the real deal… I did feel slightly rushed though as others have mentioned, it’s a bit of a conveyor belt with shouts of “you don’t need to get that close!” clearly due to the opportunists looking for a souvenir just to flip when they get home. I mentioned the other day that I was considering testing the Anvil theory… by jumping over and pushing the thing off its stand – I bottled it, instead throwing balls for what seemed like hours (for free I might add, which may be the consolation for not getting a band) I did ask the girl about the rules though, and her response was “there aren’t any” I asked, “so you just have to knock it off?” And she just said “yeah” I just didn’t have the balls to try it!!!!! (I took a picture of my little one holding a sign asking for a balloon for her birthday - worked a treat!) I found the staff to be brilliant. I tried to interact with them in a somewhat dismal manner at first which in fact felt father uncomfortable, so I just ended up being nice to them and it paid off – hence the bling - they are actually trying so hard to be dismal! BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by overend on Sept 2, 2015 3:07:51 GMT 1, I assumed that it was just a new ending to the Grim Reaper show and it happened the 3 times I saw it. Only played the Bee Gees song though.
The advertisement break-in kits were back in stock.
Wasn't a huge queue for the 2.00 entries at 2.00.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by iamzero on Sept 2, 2015 6:58:56 GMT 1, So what's the deal if I turn up without tickets... Is it just a huge queue and hope to get in? definitely get a ticket - they turned 400 people away on Saturday and the queue for walk-ups today started before the main queue did. There were a good few hundred again and I do not think they let very many (if any in) Looks like I won't be making the trip down then. It's a long way to not get in.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Tommy Tucker on Sept 2, 2015 7:25:42 GMT 1, So I went today and wow. I went to the first sitting and only managed to bag me a bloody riot shields. I'm so happy. Then spent the rest of my time taking it all in. I am going back as soon as I can. When I went to buy my shield there were 10 available and I asked how many I could buy. Replied, as many as you want. I said 'I'll take 4'. Almost got away with it until a guy came over quickly to say one per person. I can't complain though as at least the others went to a good home. I'm glad you managed to get one. Do they come packaged up or do you get to wear it around Dismaland? Don't come packaged but you can leave it in the 'Gift Shop' and collect it on the way out. At least I would of had something to defend myself with should someone want to steal it....

Why did you need 4? Well I wanted one and so did 3 of my friends as they were working. Oh well they can always pop round and look at mine hehehe

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Just on Sept 2, 2015 8:05:04 GMT 1, I remember when these riots shields came out a few years ago.
I love the program, brilliantly done. I have one that I keep reading to digest the info and one kept pristine for my collection. (No - I'm not the reason for the program shortage; there were 2 of us ;-)).

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Coach on Sept 2, 2015 9:13:06 GMT 1, Well happy to say that i made it to the exhibition this evening with a ticket for the 21:00 entry. Sounds like you had a great time. Bloody brilliant.
